I am using an earlier version of Maxsea (v7) which you can still purchase.
It's the last version compatible with Mac (OS9).
Running it on a dual boot IBook. But should work well on an older G3
Powerbook which can be cheaply obtained now.
Happily answer questions on set up.
Mapmedia charts seem to be best, I couldn't manage the configuration
with ARCS charts.

Hi David,
It would be great if you could email me some screenshots and some information... I did try to look around for information about MaxSea, but couldn't find a great deal. What functionality does it have, compared to the PC version?
Jon
Jon, as far as I know Maxsea v7 for Mac has same functionality as
Maxsea v7 for PC! It's a fairly basic easy to use system, intuitive really once you've used it for a while. Obviously the latest version for PC only has a lot more bells and whistles but I don't need them.
The original set up was quite time consuming for a non techie. I had to use
an I Mate for the Mac ADB dongle. And a Keyspan for the Magellan GPS.
Both these required drivers from their respective websites. Last but not least the Magellan NMEA output default setting was off!
The main problem I find with a laptop on the chart table is the power consumption. My boat is a multihull so the engine doesn't get run a lot and the instrument battery does run down despite having two solar panels.
