Check ebay for 8" or 10" touchscreens.
I did use a 8" touchscreen which I did put under the sprayhood because it does reflect sunlight a lot. but worked perfectly with my iBook and GPSNavX.
Now I changed it for 10" TFT touchscreen.
You can use them with 12V battery power or 110/220 V current.
But they aren't waterproof. Waterproof TFT are more expensive.

If the power budget is generous a small cheap LCD monitor in a plastic bag with a VGA cable connection to laptop in the cabin and a small inverter to power it.

Bob Etter posted a popular article on Panbo some time ago with a similar setup on a Mac mini.

I bought an 8 inch USB monitor. No power or vga cables needed and you can connect multiple monitors. Simple solution but you will have to keep it covered from spray. Mine set me back 150 dollars and works great

There are a few out there.
I bought this one for 160USD and it works well enough for my situation even in daylight though direct sun will cause glare.

If you search the net, you'll find a number of other USB powered monitors out there. Little more expensive than a standard USB, but the simplicity of running a single cord is worth it.

Another advantage is not having to either split your VGA signal or add a graphics card to your pc.

I would like to share this link for a LCD monitor which is real tempting:
http://www.amazon.com/UM730-Powered-Disp...476&sr=8-1
One needs to be concerned about mositure (obviously). A large clear ziplock bag?

I also would like to know how to mount the LCDs so they don't get knocked around. If anyone has pictures it would be well appreciated.

You bet. I have shots. Simple job of male/female velcro from inside my cabin via a porthole now. I'm routing a specific window next to my instrument panel and one by the compass and closing that with clear lexan

I purchased a above model LCD w/o a webcam for $125. I am real excited to get it and hook it up to my macbook.
BoatMonkey: I was thinking of doing the same thing with lexan. Can you please provide some info on how you are building the box? Pics would be nice. If you want please email them to me.
