I'm honestly not sure what you're asking.

Yes, I've been writing software for a very long time (37 years now) and I wrote 100% of the Outdoor Navigator and ActiveCaptain Mobile applications for multiple platforms. ActiveCaptain Mobile runs on processors as slow as 5% of the speed of the iPhone. It supports course up display and simple-to-use chart-to-chart panning. When I suggest features like that, I completely understand the technology, trigonometry, and development issues of making them happen.

Which applications (navigation or otherwise) have you written Bob? What commercial software do you have on the market?

I think it is a pretty simple question and would go a long way towards establishing your bona fides. Do you write the code?

....and, no, I do not, never said I did.

Gosh Bob, I answered you completely.

ActiveCaptain Wrote:...and I wrote 100% of the Outdoor Navigator and ActiveCaptain Mobile applications for multiple platforms.

Yes, I write software. A lot of it. Many platforms over many years.

I'll be the first to say that it doesn't matter. I respect the opinions of people like you who are sailors and are experienced with the use of software. Being able to understand the nuances of creating an abstract class in C++ isn't as important as spending a few hundred hours behind the helm in bad weather at a time when you're relying on your electronics to assist you.

Really, instead of focusing on me, why not address the points that I bring up. You don't seem able to do that. Is panning chart-to-chart in iNavX easy for you? I mean, seriously, is it? Because I feel like throwing my iPhone into the water when I'm forced to do it. Course-up doesn't appear to be important to you. OK, I get it. Every other developer spent many hours putting it in so someone thinks it's important. Even Rich now is going to do it - and I doubt it's to satisfy me.

Thanks.....I don't really see the answer to my question there (does anyone else?), but I honestly didn't think I would.

I'm done with this circular logic (and this "discussion") and, frankly, don't really see the point in continuing....you've pretty much made my point over and over again.

Great. I hope others will add something constructive now. I think if you go back and read this entire thread, it's pretty obvious that I continually answer questions and back up my statements with examples and facts.
