confirmation please... - oldvarnish - March 16, 2006 Just before I spend some money, can anyone confirm that all raster charts from Maptech will play on my G4PB with GPSNavX thanks - ReeferJon - March 16, 2006 No reason why not.. I'm happily using Maptech's Channel and Solent charts on GPSNavX for ages. - GPSNavX - March 16, 2006 GPSNavX is compatible with any BSB 1,2,3,4 or 5 chart. BSB 4 or 5 charts like those sold from Maptech must be registered on the Mac you plan to use them on. Steps for registering the BSB 4/5 charts can be found here.. http://www.gpsnavx.com/pdf/Register.pdf Once registered refer to the GPSNavX help on Opening Charts accessed on the GPSNavX "Help" menu or here.. http://www.gpsnavx.com/help/openingcharts.htm - oldvarnish - March 16, 2006 thanks, that's all very helpful. Does this mean that if I decide I no longer have use for the charts, I can't sell them to a third party? Re: confirmation please... - Yesdog - March 20, 2006 [quote="oldvarnish"]Just before I spend some money, can anyone confirm that all raster charts from Maptech will play on my G4PB with GPSNavX I recently purchased GPXNavX and BSB raster charts (inland waterway charts developed by Corps of Engineers) and coastal Gulf of Mexico raster charts by NOAA. So far, I've used the software and charts to map/plan my 800 mile trip from Port St. Joe on the Florida Panhandle to Wheeler Lake in North Alabama. It's fun, it's cool, it works. My major concern is being able to see the G4PB screen once actually underway on the water. The pilot house is enclosed, but still quite bright. Oh well, I have my Garmin GPS 182C chart plotter with a bright backlit screen. If I was going to do this over again, I would have probably purchased the another type notebook with a brighter screen for daylight viewing. I am considering the AIS/GPS reciever with USB connect. I already have the USB GPS, but hasn't been used. Wonder if it can be returned if I purchase the other model? - GPSNavX - March 20, 2006 You might look at a shade for your Mac.. http://www.hoodmanusa.com/powerbook.asp Yes any unused BU-353 GPS with original packaging can be returned for credit. Please contact me directly at gpsnavx@mac.com for a return address. Hood for G4 PB - Yesdog - March 21, 2006 great, thanks for the info/link. I ordered the hood and will let you know how it works out. Joy - Speed Racer - March 21, 2006 Yesdog Wrote:I am considering the AIS/GPS reciever with USB connect. What maker/model is this? I've been looking for a single unit that does AIS/GPS, but haven't found anything yet. - GPSNavX - March 21, 2006 There are a couple GPS/AIS combo units.. http://www.seacas.com/oscomm/home.php http://www.milltechmarine.com/products.htm Both will work fine with GPSNavX or MacENC. |
