Should I Move Over To Mac ENC - Eclipsemullet - July 10, 2007

Sorry if this has been asked many times before, but I am thinking of moving over to Mac ENC from GPS Nav X.

I am currently using an iBook G4.

Should I 'go for it'?

I have been using MacENC on a G4 Powerbook for about 2 years without any issues - the more memory the better the performance. The initial rendering takes a while but after that is complete all goes well.

If you are primarly using raster charts then I would stick with GPSNavX on your older slower G4 Mac.

While MacENC does have many improvements over the lower cost GPSNavX it really needs the speed on the newer Intel Macs. A G4 is about 6X slower than an Core 2 Duo.

You can always try out the demo version..

Make sure to follow these steps to install the raster charts..

We have Maptech raster charts currently. What are most folk using? Should we be looking to move over to vector charts?
