just wondering what other people may have aboard?
I guess the obvious choice these days would be a mac mini for size, but I've heaps of stuff lying around so am thinking of a 'project' to utilise some old stuff
there's is a mac mini in the house I could use (my daughter has been hassling me for a new macbook), but I've also got a cube that does nothing these days except look pretty, a quicksilver g4 that props up a shelf, a g4 powerbook with broken hinges, and a variety of imacs of various vintages
the new boat is a an old fifie herring drifter, 48' long and the wheelhouse is plenty big enough to fit the logic board and psu out of the way under the helm then flush fit a cd and usb sockets etc on the console somewhere.
Mad Idea and not worth the bother??
hate to see redundant macs and can't bear to dump them

For the last couple of seasons we have been using GPS Nav X on a G4 iBook. Works great.
We have it maxed out on RAM. It is a 1.33Ghz and we have 1.25GB RAM installed.
I would not attempt at moving "up" to MacENC without going over to an Intel Mac.

GPSNavX > 250 GB Score 10.3.9 or later, 512+ MB RAM

I'm guessing that is is disk space and Mb?
out of interest how long does i usually take from the Kagi checkout to getting confirmation and download of the app?

You using the Maptech charts then?? just about to order them, wondered how you've found them compared to the usual plotter stuff like navionics and c-map

Yep, we have 3 x Maptech CDs that cover our cruising area. They are good. Their appearance is nice and familiar when coming from a paper chart background. I ordered them from Kelvin Hughes, who were helpful when one of the CDs turned out to have been already registered by a former customer!
I haven't used C-Map but we have Navionics Gold on a plotter on our RIB.
I think I prefer the vector-look, but In don't feel hugely compelled to upgrade our laptop just yet. However, if I were going into it fresh, I might well go down that route.

but ....... S-57 ..... how much???£££ :o :o :o Especially as the full maptech UK/Ireland folio is now only £85
I've got a normal colour plotter with a c-map mega wide cartridge on board as well, but going for something fixed in the wheelhouse with a 12" tft and a second 14" or 15" tft fixed in the saloon,
Just installed the 'navx demo on the cube and its seems to run ok, so maybe that'll be the one to use as I can run 2 monitors from it

Will you need to get a daylight-viewable monitor for the wheelhouse?

was thinking of mounting it high up from the roof, the windows aren't huge (or won't be once the wheelhouse gets restored properly) so it'll hopefully be ok
