I'm trying to clarify the specific hardware and software necessary to integrate my iPad (with the Navionics app) and a Raymarine E80. If that is already documented somewhere on this forum, please supply a link.

Otherwise:

1) Does Navionics process the Seatalk data directly or does it need something like iMux to do a Seatalk to NMEA conversion for it?

2) Is there any other hardware or software required in order to upload/download routes and waypoints to the E80?

3) What is the purpose of the Plotter Sync app?

4) Does the Navionics app, alone or with Plotter Sync, provide a real-time instrument repeater function?

I just noticed last night that the navionics ap with the Google Earth overlay shows only shoal water (<20M) from the vector charts. The rest, including deep water, is aerial photos.
I like it. You only want to know about shallow water anyway, and the shoal areas really stand out in contrast to the "ocean."

Navionics want me to pay twice

I have Navionics on both my iphone and my ipad. I had to purchase it again when I upgraded my iphone from a 3gs to a 4, ok, I accepted that. Then I had a problem with the ipad version crashing, so I wrote to Navionics a few days ago and they suggested I delete the app, download it again and re-install. Their email also said I would not be charged for the app again, so i did as suggested, then I find out that I was charged for the app. Navionics have upgraded the app to allow wireless connection between Raymarine and either the ipad or iphone if you use a newer E series which I do not have. The second upgrade is that you don't download the full map set, just what you want in smaller segments. Now that's a hassle, but the big issue is that they changed the name, same app and they want us to buy it again instead of their stated free upgrades for life....
I am going to connect Apple since I thing this is a scam. So I guess it a case that any app supplier that stated "Free upgrades" can change the name, delete the old version from itunes and expect one to buy again for a upgrade that fixes bugs.

ipad Navionics app and/or iNavX app

I just got an ipad 3G, and I have purchased the Navionics Marine US Central HD ipad app for $19.99. I am quite impressed by the basic features of the app and the charts themselves (which I read was the Navi. gold). As a GPSNavX user, I am think about getting iNavX ($49.99).

I am a bit confused about the chart options for iNavX. In reading posts, it sounds like one needs to purchase Navionics charts for $49.99 in addition to purchasing iNavX. Are these Navionics charts different from the Navionics app chart? I would hate to spend the $99.98 to find that charts are really no better that the $19.99 app.

Navionics for iPhone adds rotation

Navionics released an update of their iPhone app that now optionally rotates the chart as you're turning. This is a big step and a nice feature addition.

Personally, I think that chart rotation is a must-have feature for any navigation product.

Navionics also removed their satellite overlay mode for land areas. I was wondering how they were getting licensing on that. I guess they weren't.

Tides and currents are integrated and it looks like the latest data is included.

It's no wonder why Practical Sailor recommended the Navionics product over Memory-Map and iNavx. And that was even before this new release.

Have you noticed that the latest version of the navionics iphone app overlays the nautical charts on google earth, apparently by using the shoreline as a boundary in the vector charts. It's pretty cool.

Soundings - feet or metres

I have the Navionics 32XG, Australia chart on iPhone 3G S. The soundings are in feet (The annotations; dredged depths and the like are in metres!). Can the soundings be changed to metres?

No support by Navionics !?

Hi there,
I bought North and East Canada Vers. 3.0 a few days ago (Order MT6TBBJKH) in th German App Store . Although I am a fan of Navionics charts for iPhone (bought Caribien USA, Mediteranian etc
I have to tell you that I asked for refund of the East Canada chart, because there is big big mistake: If you see Overview Nova Scotia
and Newfoundland there is a large Island (approx 100 km wide) between, Northwes from Newfoundland, called Isle de la Magdalena or in English: The Magdalen Islands (see attachment upper right corner at the right side of the red word CANADA)
In your chart you see the Magdalen Islands if you have zoomed out (Overview). But if you zoom in for details the Island is complety lost, disappeared. Since we thought to use this chart in our charter business on Cape Breton with our charter-boats for our clients it is impossible to offer, it is dangerous.
So please solve the problem, send an update or refund the 7.99 Euro as I requested at Apple, they forwarded to Navionics - no reaction from there. Please understand, this is not a little mistake. That`s a NO GO.
