Another essential reason to modify to solar technology could be the financial savings it gives. Solar panel systems are designed for generating electricity for businesses, reducing or eliminating the need for traditional resources of energy. This might end up in significant savings on energy bills, particularly in areas with a high energy costs. Furthermore, there are many different government incentives and tax credits offered to companies that adopt solar technology, which makes it much more cost-effective and affordable.

The technology behind solar technology is not at all hard, yet highly effective. Solar panel systems are made up of photovoltaic (PV) cells, which convert sunlight into electricity. This electricity are able to be kept in batteries or fed directly into the electrical grid, with respect to the specific system design. To be able to maximize the advantages of solar power, it is essential to design a custom system this is certainly tailored to your particular energy needs and requirements. This can make certain you have the proper components in place, like the appropriate quantity of solar power panels as well as the right types of batteries, to maximise your power efficiency and cost savings.
I've been at sea for a week since leaving Hawaii. The wind and seas have been favorable for the most part, allowing Blue Moon to move gracefully through the ocean at 7 to 10 knots. The seas have been rough at times and there have been dozens of squalls to sail around if possible or through if not. One night several thunderstorms surrounded Blue Moon with lighting above, around, and in all directions. I sailed for several hours through the night steering to avoid and sailing away from the thunderstorms and at one point finding myself surrounded by thunderstorms and lightning. Once past the thunderstorms I could look back in the distance and watch the light show the lightning displayed behind me.

Hi All,

Lets face it. I've been a bad owner. I have great plans for this site and its growth but in the time I have been responsible for this site it has continued to become a haven for spam. I'll spare you the details that have delayed my plans, but be sure that I am committed to correcting and growing this forum. I have a short list of forum platforms to convert this forum to as the original platform has been end of life for several years. I have engaged with a conversion service to eliminate the spam and convert the forum to the new format.

I will keep you posted on the progress.

I do login and delete spam as often as I can. However, I barely make a dent in it as it shows up faster than I can delete it.

I'm looking forward to deploying the new re-design and making this forum great!

Hi everyone,

I have been interested in racing for most of my life but admit that I'm not much good at it. I have theories and systems that I think would work but always seem to let my emotions get in the way. I am considering buying a subscription to a software program that would make it easier to stick to a system and gather the info.

Dont get me wrong I'm not an idiot I understand that there is nothing out there that is fool proof and just prints money for you but I'm looking for a tool to help.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.

I am suffering after the weekend from too much sun - in England who would have thought it? Anyone have any recommendations for sunblock that works and won't make me cry when it gets in my eyes the first time I duck dive? Ideally as natural as possible, no animal testing etc. And anybody got any sun protecting head gear ideas that work in the water as what is left of my hair is not enough to protect my head. Needs to stay on my head, ideally brim all the way round to keep the tops of my ears protected too. Done the google search thing, it looks like sailing hats are cheaper than surf hats which is surprising but am I missing anything cheaper or better. What does anyone use that actually works?

Happy New Year!

Macsailing.net wants to thank you for being a member, and wish you all the best for 2017.

You may have noticed that Macsaiing.net was recently listed for sale. We are happy to announce that the sale has closed and the transition is well underway with over 90% completion. I want to personally thank Jon for creating and managing the forum, and for his help in the transition. Jon will still be here, and has offered to help. Thank you, Jon!

Who am I? Well, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Russ, and I live in San Francisco. I work in the high-tech world of Silicon Valley. I am an avid sailor and especially like offshore voyages and ocean cruising. I sail on the San Francisco Bay and off the coast of Northern California most of the time, but I have sailed up and down the California coast. I have been sailing for over 20 years and have completed the US Sailing certifications for Sail and Power vessels. I recently completed the US Coast Guard Captains course for 100T Master Ocean, Sail and Tow. I spent time in the US Navy as a Deep Sea Diver, and am a member of 2 yacht clubs, Ballena Bay Yacht Club and Presidio Yacht Club . I am also a member of a sailing club, Club Nautique , a fantastic sailing club that offers all the training you need, boat charters, and a great community. People from all over the world travel to Club Nautique's location on the San Francisco Bay to take sailing lessons, and charter boats to sail in the Bay and the Pacific Ocean.

My boat is a 2003 Jeanneau 52.2, Blue Moon, MMSI 367647990. You can track her on Marinetraffic.com by searching for the MMSI #. She has an LOA of 51', and a beam of 16', draft is 7.5'.
Blue Moon is a sturdy and capable cruiser and is equipped for ocean passages. She has 2x Raymarine e127 MFDs, RD418HD Color Radar, AIS transceiver, EPIRB, 8-person life raft, water maker, 1100+ Ah gel cell battery bank, Fusion AV700 – (gotta have tunes!) and yes – Satellite TV.

I use my Macbook Air, iPad, and iPhone for the majority of my sailing needs. I use a multitude of apps and software, but the most often used are iNavX, Theyr, Navionics, Tide Data, and of course the Raymarine apps for viewing and controlling the MFD functions.

I must confess that I also carry two Android tablets onboard.

I am excited to be a part of this community, and I look forward to furthering our discussions and member base. Please share content with your friends and social media followers to help build an awesome global community of sailors! We have an updated Facebook page and Twitter account. Upgrades to the forum site are coming soon.

Have a super 2017, and let's make Macsailing and iPhonesailing awesome together!

That is a shame as I really am enjoying the iNavX and it's functionality...
Does anyone come here or is it better using a sub thread?

Im new to all this guys but basically i want to hook my mac into my NMEA network and use it to run OPEN CPN. I have a lowrence HDS 9 GEN 2 sounder / plotter that i want to obtain the data from my and populate through Open CPN. I am told my sounder / plotter outputs NMEA0183 which is confusing as i have a NMEA backbone that the VHF connects into the lowrance unit with ????. So i thought it was a lll NMEA 2000. I am not technologically gifted and all this is very new to me guys. So if there is anyone out there that can tell me what i need to do to get all this information on my Mac to use Open CPN id greatly appreciate the help.

Hello!

Just wondering if anybody has converted HDR for OpenCPN? I'm headed south to Mexico and the only charts I can find are HDR.

I've read that I can use ImageMagik, but not without Xcode and Macports? Anybody know if this is true?

I'm running OSX 10.7.5 and haven't been able to find a working version of Xcode for my OS.

Thanks!

Since upgrading to lion then Mountain Lion on my MB pro, I have been unable to obtain a GPS position with Open CPN. It is displaying other vessels with AIS and the 'ls /dev/tty.*' command with Terminal tells me that Prolific serial converter is being recognised but no GPS position.
Anyone else experienced this and any suggestions for a fix?
