Any idea if ipad is supported with the USB and a external GPS?

I do not know of any external GPS receiver for "iPad". iPad has a 30 pin dock connecter just like iPod and iPhone. Not a standard USB connector. So far Bluetooth GPS are not supported.

There are a few external GPS for iPod and iPhone so would not surprise me to see something released for iPad.
iPad 3G has an internal GPS receiver similar to iPhone 3G and 3GS.
