(/thread-1476.html) |
- ehde - June 18, 2011 I bought charts from English Channel to Sweden and downloaded them on my iPad 2. To my big surprise, as I come to UK I cannot use the charts unless I am connected to the web! It needs to be authorized! Why on earth would you need that? Why can't I just use the charts I payed for? - GPSNavX - June 19, 2011 Once you download the charts to iNavX, there is no further need to connect to the internet (i.e. the Chart Server) to use the charts at any time. The charts that have been downloaded will list in a bold font, where the ones that have not yet been downloaded will not be in bold.. http://www.gpsnavx.com/iNavX/help/usingcharts.htm - ehde - June 19, 2011 Sorry, no it does not work, they are downloaded but demand a wifi or 3G, now I paid for a connection and they came up without any problem. This makes it nonsens for a user on the water. - GPSNavX - June 19, 2011 Here are some screen shots showing downloaded Navionics 28XG charts from X-Traverse working without need for a Cell or WiFi connection in iNavX .. To download a region the program will ask you if you are sure, well there is no other option than answering yes, if you want a new chart. So it will start the process but ask for an internet connection, without it you cannot do it. Screen shots in Swedish, sorry about that but the second one says (free translation): Warning Not possible to get account information (no data) - GPSNavX - June 19, 2011 Yes you do need an internet connection to initially download ALL the charts, but after they are downloaded you should not need to do so again to use them as they are stored locally on your iPad 3G. In the second screen shot you show, only one of the charts for the region have been downloaded to iNavX. Once downloaded the chart names will appear in a bold font such as the third screen shot in my response above. I also note you have your iPad in "Airplane mode" which disables the internet connection and the iPad 3G GPS. As such it is impossible in this mode to download the charts or use them once downloaded. This is what is causing the error message in the second screen shot you have provided. So I recommend you do this: 1) Turn "Airplane Mode" OFF in the iPad "Settings". 2) Enable "WiFi" connection 3) Return to iNavX and select any chart, when prompted, select "Yes, Download All..." After the charts have downloaded you should not need to do so again. Page 9 of this guide gives complete instructions for activating, downloading the charts from X-Traverse .. http://www.fugawi.com/web/x-traverse/x-traverse_setup_instructions.pdf - ehde - June 19, 2011 Please, believe me, I put it in airplane mode to show you what happens when I have no internet connection (of course!). Second, these charts have been all uploaded once at home, and they will be offloaded or whatever when I want to open a new region (from those that I have previously loaded) . Just so you know at home it took a long time to upload each region, now it makes it real fast, IF I have an internet connection. I don't think it really uploads a region from the web, it uploads from within the ipad, but requires a connection. - ehde - June 20, 2011 I guess the dialogue stopped here, we have to sail on and hopefully this will be solved in the future. I guess we have to download another app, unfortunately i spent a fortune on charts through Nav X hoping it was a rigid system. It works as long as you stay in one region, but when you move on the next you better connect to internet. - GPSNavX - June 20, 2011 .. Or just be sure to pre-download the charts for the entire 28XG region (or other regions you have purchased). Once you do that I am confident that you will not need an internet connection to navigate with iNavX. iNavX will only prompt to download a chart if it does not already exist on your iPad. - FF44 - June 21, 2011 I confirm that iNavX and Navionics (or others) charting can be used everywhere around the world. Have a look on these two topics: Crossing the Atlantic with an iPad Crossing the Pacific with an iPad Just be careful of one thing: after downloading entire region charts, as Rich Ray explain, never tap on "Update Chart List" > "Yes", all your charts will have to be re-downloaded. - ehde - June 30, 2011 Hallo again, thanks for your input, my app does not give me any other option than update chart list, how do you get around this? - GPSNavX - June 30, 2011 Once you select "Update the Chart List" and select "Yes", you will see a list of all available charts for the selected region. Select the first chart, then select the download all choice. This will allow iNavX to download all the charts for the selected region. Keep in mind that the chart list can be filtered three ways: Magnifying glass - list all charts Triangle - list only those charts that intersect with your device position History - list the charts you last used in the region http://www.gpsnavx.com/iNavX/help/usingcharts.htm - ehde - July 12, 2011 Hallo again, I think we are communicating about two things, I have no problem at all to download a region, but how do I keep that when I want a second and third region? Im moving now from the English channel to Northern Europe. Other than that I did entry a very difficult place i Holland yesterday and the software plus ipad was far better then our Raymarine in detail etc - GPSNavX - July 12, 2011 Unless you explicitly tell iNavX to remove a region or chart, the charts will remain on your iPad. - ehde - August 9, 2011 Well I just downloaded the Swedish region, I never told the software to take away anything, and now the previous regions are gone. By the way the swedish charts are far from as good as those we used in the English Channel and Northern Europe. A lot of mess t move between different charts, also on the Mac (even worse in fact). pls try them |
