Sea of Cortez charts - amcairns - December 18, 2007

A colleague is going to the Sea of Cortez on a bareboat charter in February (lucky him!) and the only electronic charts I could find are from MapTech in PCX format. Anyone know of any charts for the area readable by MacENC?

I would look for S-57 ENCs (official or Navionics)..

Jim Innes website has BSB charts (probably old softcharts) available that will work. Search this site and you'll find how to access it. Just be aware that all of Baja and the Sea of Cortez is not well charted and what's available was generally developed by the USN in WWII. You won't find the detail you're used to in the US, so Charlie's Charts or equivalent is essential. I have noticed a few S-57's are becoming available, and can be obtained through Chartworld, but they're very limited. I'd guess the Mexican governement is finally developing them, though slowly.
