This is great news! A couple of questions...
if I purchase Navionics charts for MacENC, can I register and unregister them from a number of different Macs? I tend to use my "boat mac" when sailing and my "iMac" for passage planning, although not at the same time.
Also, with MacENC 7, are you supporting all features of the Navionics charts, such as tide graphs and currents?

I am told by the end of today ALL of the Navionics charts will be available for purchase via x-traverse.
Contact us directly at gpsnavx at mac dot com for instructions on upgrading to MacENC.

Just downloaded the UK Navionics Gold charts with MacENC 7 and have to say I'm blown away by the results. There are a number of things that jump out...
[image]http://jonknight.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/Picture-15.png[/image] :p
1. The chart rendering is really quick. Even on my underpowered Macbook Air, it is much faster than S57.
2. The rendering is completely consistent with Navionics charts on my chart plotter, and those on their iPhone app.
Well done, GPSNavX. I'm really impressed with this release. If I may be so bold as to make a couple of requests...
1. Please support tidal currents from the Navionics charts. They're really useful!
2. Please add support for zooming gestures on the trackpad
3. Please keep up the good work!!!

Navionics charts for both MacENC and iNavX must come from x-traverse. The Navionics card reader is currently not supported on Mac.

Yes I would like to add Navionics card-reader support to MacENC. It is something that is being looked at, but dependent on Navionics. So I have no prediction as to when it will work in MacENC.

I have Navionics Gold on my Furuno NavNet2 network system, and like it just fine; it is my primary navigation system for "driving the boat". I can't see the value in buying it for MacENC given the availability of the NOAA charts. The only added info is for Marinas and the inland lakes, and I like the vector chart rendering better with MacENC/NOAA vectors than on my Furuno/Navionics system. Am I missing something? Would this allow me to transfer waypoints and routes back and forth (I don't see how...)?
Secondly, will Navionics offer an update deal like they do on their chips, or is it merely 2 years and you have to buy a new one as implied on the link?

The primary value is the additional coverage Navionics offers (i.e. non US waters, lakes, areas where NOAA has yet to offer Harbor detail).
The Navionics charts also render (draw) quite a bit faster the NOAA ENCs.
You can continue to use the Navionics charts from X-Traverse for as long as you like, but yes a new edition (yearly) would have to be purchased. Navionics is good about fixing reported problems with charts and there is no charge for such updates.
Transfering waypoints has nothing to do with what charts are in use. That requires a NMEA connection to MacENC.

Huh? is there a tutorial somewhere for that? My Furuno system can feed all it's NMEA data to MacENC, which I use on occasion through a serial connection I have in the stateroom relayed through a Furuno RD30. I seem to recall asking this question through the help desk awhile ago and no joy. This would be terrific as MacENCs primary purpose is trip planning on my boat.

No tutorials for MacENC, only help accessed on the MacENC "Help" menu. Assuming you have the NMEA IN on your Furuno interfaced to your Mac (i.e. MacENC can send data to your Furuno) you should be able to set the type to "Other" in the GPS panel Settings drawer and MacENC will use the NMEA $GPWPL NMEA message to send Waypoints when "Transfer" "To GPS..." is selected on the "Waypoints" menu.
"Furuno" type can be used, but my experience is this will replace all existing waypoints with what is transferred from MacENC.

I wouldn't be totally averse to that, the waypoints and routes on the Furuno need some cleaning up. Are you saying it transfers ALL waypoints, or can you select them?
I have tried this in the past using this passage from Help
"Waypoints can be copied to and from the GPS via "Transfer" sub menu item with the menu item "To/From GPS" via the "Waypoints" menu. Currently Garmin, Magellan, Furuno and Other protocols are supported. Before the transfer begins the GPS panel will automatically be closed. Make sure the correct brand of GPS is selected in the GPS Settings drawer. Garmin GPS will need to be put in Data Transfer/Slave or 'GARMIN' Mode before a waypoint transfer can be performed. Other GPS must support the $GPWPL NMEA message. Since GPS's don't support long unrestricted waypoint names or descriptions they will be reformatted and truncated when being transferred."
"Selected Routes can be copied to a GPS via the "Selected To GPS" via the "Transfer" submenu on the "Routes" menu. Currently the Garmin, Magellan and Other protocols are supported. Before the transfer begins the GPS panel will automatically be closed. Make sure the correct brand of GPS is selected in the GPS Settings drawer. Garmin GPS will need to be put in Data Transfer/Slave or 'GARMIN' Mode before a route transfer can be performed. Some GPS units support selecting a specific route # to store the route to. Leaving it at "01" will store the route in the first memory "slot". Other Garmin and Magellan units ignore the Route # and just use the Route name as a unique identifier. Other GPS must support receiving the $GPRTE and $GPWPL NMEA message. Since GPS's don't support long unrestricted waypoint names or descriptions they will be reformatted and truncated when being transferred."
But it doesn't make clear the need to configure the "IN" on the Furuno, so that is likely the reason for failure. The boat is on the hard for some maintenance right now, but I may give this a try next time I am at the yard. If you can't do them selectively, that will be an issue as the Furuno has limited capacity. I also note that "Furuno" is not mentioned in the Routes dissertation above, but assume (dangerously) that that is a typo, as it is a selectable on the GPS menu; I always thought that was for receiving purposes only.
Thanks!

Navionics is now allowing two activations on their charts and maps purchased from X-Traverse. This is retroactive to previous purchases. So if you find you do not have an additional activation (for a second Mac) for Navionics charts and maps purchased from X-Traverse, contact X-Traverse support..

Hello,
I've downloaded the demo version of MacEnc from their website and they state to support the Navionics maps.
I'm running a MacBookPro with Intel Core2Duo processor and OSx 10.6.4 (snow leopard).
I tried to connect my Navionics card reader (which works great with my windows PC) to my Mac and I tried to load it into the MacEnc. It doesn't load any Map.
I tried with the following Maps:
Code=23XH, V 03.20 (Medit & Black Sea) and
another one which is BARI- P-Barricata 1.20 and none of them works.
What's wrong with that? Did I mistake something?
