Title: "Track" preferences in GPSNavX
#1
Hi;

I've had 10-12 sailing days of experience with GPSnavX now, and am pretty pleased. One item that is a continuing aggravation is the "Track" feature.

I like that you can turn on tracking with command-T. However, the other preferences do not seem logical.

1) the default color is white!! Who can see that on a chart??
2) the default for show is off.
3) the default for capture is off. (I think that's the term used).

What I would prefer is that command-T turns on tracking, which automatically captures, and shows a track in a dark color.

I am competent to edit an xml preference list if you can offer advice on what parameters to edit. I would suggest too that others might prefer these normal settings, especially the dark color line.

This is probably more aggravating to me, running on a Dell Hackentosh with a crappy track pad....

Thanks

D

[command] T simply displays the Track window.

The track color defaults to black if never set, otherwise it uses what ever color has been set in the "Color..." selection.

"Capture" and "Show" will be set to how ever last set when GPSNavX is exited. When "Capture" is enabled, "Show" will also be.

Could it be possible the Preferences are not saved when running on non Apple hardware?

On my mac pro at work, using the GPSNavX demo (5.5), the default color is white (never used before) and the choice to "show" is not highlighted. If I set these to black and select show, then quit the defaults go back to white and not show. I don't have a gps unit at work

I tried to install the full sw on my desktop with my activation code, but it is not allowed.

GPSNavX 5.65 is the latest version available.

You can also use the "Simulator" on the "GPS" menu to try a test recording. The "Track" menu options will then be made available.

For the next releases I will make the Track color dialog that is displayed when "Color" is selected on the "Track" menu reflect the last selected color. That being said the track color that is used for plotting is the last one selected.

The Track color for existing track records can be changed by selecting them in the Track window, then selecting a new color with "Color.." on the "Track" menu.

O...K... I have now downloaded the latest demo (and tried to activate the latest version with my activation code, to no avail)

and *still* the default color for tracks is white. If I select a map, and choose "show" and "capture", then quit, *in this demo version* the chosen map, and "show" and "capture" status selections are retained, while the track color has reverted to white.

Maybe that's because it's a demo, but the demo managed to save the other three aspects.

Thanks

Your second sentence may indicate that the second track of a specific session will be the same color, which is not the same as requested. If the first sentence means that the default is either black or that a new session loads the last selected color I am happy.

Thanks

Correct. The color selection dialog was defaulting to white, but the actual track color that is plotted is black (if never set) or the last color that was selected in the color selection dialog. The next release will properly set the color selection dialog.

Just as an FYI, GPSNavX does not use "maps", only marine charts..
