Title: Apple recalls 1,8 million laptop batteries
#1
Apple has issued a recall for 1.8 million PowerBook G4 and iBook G4 Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) batteries that used technology from Sony. Batteries with the Sony technology (used in Apple, Dell, and Sony laptops, among others) have recently been catching fire, with Dell recently recalling 4.1 million batteries.

The recall effects a variety of machines manufactured from October 2003 and August 2006, but does not effect the MacBook or the MacBook Pro, as they contain different battery technology. Yesterday, Apple announced that it would be joining Dell and Lenovo in creating Li-Ion standards.

More information can be found on the battery recall's site.

I've just asked for a new replacement battery, as I don't want my sailing boat going up in flames. See pictures (links) below!
The battery can even explode if your iBook / PowerBook is power off.
Apparently the problem is due to a misproduction run at SONY.

It just hurts seeing these pictures!
Especially as I did just read a longer article about fire on sailing boats in the latest German "Yacht" magazine! :-(

Before you count yourself out of Apple's recent battery recall, have another look at the Battery Exchange Program iBook G4 and PowerBook G4 on Apple's site

<https://support09.apple.com/index.html>

the list of recalled batteries has changed since it was first reported. Here's the new list: <http://www.macmerc.com/news/archives/3435>
