The next version of MacENC and GPSNavX will automatically reconnect the GPS (and instruments and AIS) after awakening from sleeping IF "Connect At StartUp" is checked for the respective panels in the Preferences.

I have only seen the lockout with BlueTooth devices, but not USB. None the less glad this issue is resolved for you.
