Yes, this is the idea. Actually, you made me realize what I'm really after is 'personal weather station' software for a Mac that can feed off NMEA instruments. I just found this in the PC world:

While this is a whole hardware/software package it does feed off NMEA. A Mac version of a software like this would be great.
