Any chance the dock connector could be used to interface with a USB GPS? (Could be a "patch" to the official version in case the SDK doesn't have an API for it).
Charts transfer could be done via WiFi when at home (from the LAN). Charts could then be saved on the iPhone by the app. This would be important for me as I navigate in waters for which no public charts are available over the internet. 8 or 16 (soon 32?) GB of storage should be ok for a certain area (e.g. going on sailing vacation around the Baleares islands) even if raster charts are used.
