If you have more than just a GPS to connect to your Mac I am recommending the ShipModule Miniplex lite. It supports three NMEA inputs and one output (which can be connected up to four devices).
The third input port can be used for an AIS receiver as it supports the high speed AIS data (at 38,400).
The Miniplex lite plugs right into the USB port of your Mac.
