The "Weather" menu provides for requesting and viewing GRIB weather forecast files. GRIB forecasts are computer models. To learn more about the GRIB models send a blank email to:
gribmodels@saildocs.com
For GPSNavX, the requested GRIB will cover the area of the opened chart. It must be at least 3 degrees by 3 degrees or approximately 180 x 180 nm in size as GRIB data is typically on 1 degree increments.
For MacENC, the requested GRIB will cover 40 degrees x 40 degrees centered on where the chart is viewed. MacENC has other options on the "Weather" menu for requesting the GRIB.
In the GPSNavX or MacENC Preferences enter your email address in the GRIB Request section. Uncheck "Manual" if you do not want to review the email request that will be sent.
To Request a GRIB:
1) Select "Request GRIB" from the "Weather" menu.
2) Select the type of GRIB desired (i.e. wind, wave, temperature, precipitation).
The request will occur by sending an email to SailDocs. If the request goes through, the resultant GRIB email will be received in your email inbox.
3) Open the GRIB email received, and drag the .grb file to your Mac's desktop (Or press the "Save" button to have the GRIB saved to the default downloads folder).
To View a GRIB:
1) Select "Open GRIB" on the "Weather" menu.
2) Select the .grb file on the desktop (Or the default downloads folder).
3) To see the GRIB you may have to zoom the chart out or possibly scroll the chart.
4) The "Weather" panel provides controls to select the (Local) date/time of the forecast. Forecasts that are past will be indicated by a red date/time. Other controls are available to determine how and what GRIB data is plotted on the chart.
