Title: Success Story
#1
Hello all,

Just wanted to share a success story in case you have a similar configuration and want to know if it works.

I have a Furuno GP32 GPS and a ComNav 1001 autopilot. GPSNAVX is running on my PowerBook under Tiger. I purchased a MiniPlex Lite multiplexer from ShipModul and hooked it all up...

...and it works like a charm! Amazing stuff.

Happy sailing, and thanks to GPSNAVX for great software.

Cheers,
Aaron

More success...

We have Nexus instruments (circa 1998), a Garmin 48 GPS and a MillTech Marine AIS receiver. Hooked them up through a Brookhouse multiplexer with the "5th Port" AIS option and the "USB" option. Had trouble until we set the USB port on the multiplexer to the same speed as the AIS (38,400) and all is now working. We use MacENC on a Powerbook G4 17" and Coastal Navigator on a Toshiba Wintel machine. Either machine can plug into the USB multiplexer so we have a software & hardware back-up.

Haven't yet tried hooking up the SeaTalk port on the multiplexer to our new Raymarine autopilot, but that is the next project. The autopilot is currently receiving NMEA data from the GPS to steer to a waypoint. More NMEA data would allow steering to a waypoint in the computer or steering to the wind from the Nexus instruments.

Regards,
Mark

Mark,
If you haven't already, check my post on Seatalk and the miniplex a month or two ago (you should find it easily if you search on 'seatalk'). Unless they've updated it the Seatalk wiring to the miniplex isn't documented and isn't as obvious as you might think. I finally had to email GPSNavX and he emailed the miniplex guys to get it sorted out. Once done correctly it works very well. Was actually very easy and I used a spare Seatalk cable meant to connect to a powersource. One such cable comes with each RayMarine device and you only need one for the whole network.
