Title: British Mac Programmes please
#1
Hi Folks
I sail around Uk waters- i know there are many PC nav packages but I have used Macs for working for many years and I cannot get my head around a PC and after about 5 mins the PC laptop nearly flies overboard. Im not a computer geak and hopeless with terminology.
Im purchasing a Macbook pro to help me keep on working whilst on my boat- hopefully so that I can progress to living on board. Im so impressed by GPSNavX for the US. Is there anything for the UK please? Can I link GPS and AIS systems up too?
I would really appreciate any help and advice.
Best wishes all

GPSNavX works just fine in the UK. Nothing limits GPSNavX or MacENC to US waters.

Raster charts for GPSNavX and MacENC can be found here..

Both GPSNavX and MacENC work great with GPS and AIS receivers. Spend some time reading the posts here on Mac Sailing so you can come up to speed with the options available.

Hi Saxon,
I use GPSNavX now since 14 months in the Mediterranian and in the Carribean Seas without any Problems with Maptec Charts. It works perfect.

Another option, if you want to use UK Admiralty Charts (ARCS), is PassagePlus: http://www.windvector.com

I intended to buy GPSNavX and use UK charts for the west of Scotland. I looked at http://www.memory-map.co.uk/world_marine_charts.html , but :The requested URL /acatalog/maptech-marine.html was not found on this server". I assume they don't dont d these charts any more. Does anyone know of another supplier.

Or use Navionics from X-Traverse with MacENC ..

Thanks for the reply.

Xandis certainly advertise the Maptech/VMH Simply Charts U.K./Ireland 2012 Edition. Also I eventually found them on the VMH site. However they say:

"Our package is derived from 127 DPI raster images .... We are not 100% happy with this product. It works fine in Maptech software, but the image quality is not good enough in many other programs. If you have a Maptech program and wish to purchase, please contact us. For the moment we are investigating re-doing this issue at 300 DPI... which won't happen quickly."

So how are these 127 DPI raster images with GPSNavX ?
