OK, the short of it is my original Macbook is no more - I don't want to discuss... However, the good news I had just backed it with Time Machine and the 'restore' worked perfectly - almost. My new Macbook looked and worked identically to my old one, including passwords, secure stuff, etc. The only exception I've come across is the registration of my Canadian BSB charts, which MacENC or GPSNavX won't recognize. I assume I need to run the 'Register' program again, but the first thing it does is prompt for the cds, which are in storage a hundred miles from me. That was an error on my part - that cd case was supposed to be onboard...
Question - is it possible to register the charts without the cd? The com.maptech.certificates.plist did copy over, but I assume it has some sort of code identifying it to the specific computer.
Moral - make sure you have the orginal cds onboard as backup...

Yes the Maptech Registration does require the CDs (a special file on the CD is needed). You will need to follow ALL of the
Registration steps using the Installation ID on your new Mac.

As a last resort:

(It may be cheaper than the gas and time to retrieve your CD's from storage!)

So is there no way to "register" the BSB charts that are available on Jim Innes' server? I have tried copying the files onto a CD and DVD but the Register app still does not recognize the files.

Only BSB 4 and 5 charts need registration. They have the name XYZ.CAP where older BSB charts have the name XYZ.KAP
Softcharts also do not need to be registered. They have the name XYZ.NOS, XYZ.GEO

Well these must be the new BSB4 or 5 charts. They have file name formats of XYZ.CAP. Yes, I did try opening them first and found that they were not recognized by MacENC, hence the questions. The charts I downloaded were for England South Central 'cause I plan a long weekend sail there in July. Not a big problem as I can always rely on paper charts, but I would like to get the lay of the land/sea before setting out. Any other suggestions for charts in that area?

Well, hopefully Jim will chime in. Doesn't seem any point on posting them on the server if you can't register and use them!
