Whats the difference?

I'll be using it on a 17" 1.5 PowerBook w/ OS 10.4.x. Most likely for route planning only.

I just purchased the MACENC software and have observed an issue that has repeated itself several times. I have the raster charts for Vancouver Island East installed and Chart Manager can see them no problem. It seems on occasion the charts are unavailable to me regardless if i zoom in or out...I only have the generic base map. If I add just one of the charts via Chart Manager the rest will auto load when i zoom on that area, but i would prefer to not have to add the chart or charts via Chart Manager if possible. Is anyone experiencing this issue?

Hi, just joined and recently purchased and am using MacENC on my MacBook Pro. I am wondering if in the future it would be possible to add to the route matrix, two new columns featuring waypoint to waypoint traveling time based on what was entered in the speed column? Also, at the bottom of the column would be the total time.

I use my iPhone with iNavX connected to MacENC via TCP/IP on the boat. It is also usually hard wired and sitting on the Nav Station table. When I need it "remotely" it's for limited periods of time so battery life isn't really an issue for me. Not having to restart apps anytime I go from one to another would be helpful and a 4G with multi-tasking would for sure replace my 3G and maybe push me into an iPad.

I'm curious as to how others practice iPhone battery management aboard?

Just a note of warning that "Airplane Mode" on the iPhone and iPad 3G "Settings" disables not only the cell and WiFi connection, but also disables GPS reception for all apps. Do be sure that "Location Services" in "General" is "ON".

For users concerned with roaming charges, just be sure that "General" "Network" "Data Roaming" is "OFF" in "Settings"

love this program; used it with the AIS all the way down the coast and looking forward to using it during the puddle jump

a few suggestions:
1) would it be possible to add an option for choosing the time period over which to average the direction that the position vector points? I like being able to change the length, but in a sailboat at 5 knots the direction of the vector bounces around so much as to be of limited usefulness. For that matter, it would be wonderful to be able to choose the averaging time for the heading that is shown as well, so that one doesn't have to do some quick and imprecise mental averaging while watching the numbers bounce around.

-Frequently when I zoom in or out the raster chart display turns itself off and needs to be turned back on. Perhaps I am doing something wrong, but this seems like a little bug, yes?

MacENC/gpsnavx is the only charting option for mac, and yet the software is maintained as if competition was driving it towards constant improvements, and I respect that--thanks for the program!

It's that time of the year (or month?) again. The next best version of PolarView / PolarCOM is out.

just downloaded PolarCom and I really like the look of your instruments, I noticed that on your website that it says that you can do nmea data logging, my main use of data logging is for wind speed and direction to get an sense of the oscillating patterns while racing, is it possible to work in a stripchart type display for wind speed and direction???

Hi,
I got the BU 353 to run with GPSnavX but having problems installing the receiver.
I have installed the prolific driver and the red LED on the unit is flashing but when i open GPSnavX on the settings for the gps won't show the usb port in which the receiver is connected, is showing only my usb modem and bluetooth ports.
Anyone have any idea whats happening?
