Title: Chartplotter & GPSNavX
#1
I've been using GPSNavX with a handheld Garmin with great success...but am now on the brink of upgrading to a Raymarine, Furuno or Garmin fixed-mount large screen charplotter.

Raymarine leading candidate right now.

Are these pretty straightforward to conenct to my Mac and GPSNavX?

Thanks for any 1st hand testimonials!

I have a Navman 5500 on board which I've just installed. I'll hopefully be testing it with GPSNavX this weekend (if my iBook is fixed!). The new NavMan's (not mine) are really cool as they support C-MAP's new MAX charts.

Let you know how I get on.

Might be worth putting together a matrix of how well specific GPS / Chartplotter vendors work with GPSNavX. In particular, I'm interested in how well they import and export waypoints, routes and tracks.

Other than USB GPS, all GPS must connect via Keyspan USB to serial adapter or a Shipmodul Multiplexor. Most GPS manufacturers offer a PC interface cable. Most terminate with a standard DB-9 connector which will connect to the Keyspan adapter. If not then a DB-9 can be attached to the power/data cable. Pins 2,3 and 5 should be connected to the GPS transmit, receive and ground respectively. A Shipmodule multiplexor can be used with the bare wires.

GPSNavX supports transfer of waypoints, routes and tracks from Garmin, Magellan, Furuno other any other GPS that supports the $GPWPL and $GPRTE NMEA message.
