Title: Raymarine and Macs
#1
While I am no fan of Raymarine instrumentation, use this box combined with a Keyspan Adapter and Raymarine E86001 serial cable to connect to your Mac...

Prefer the Comnav as they speak NMEA..

Why do you dislike Raymarine products? Is it because waypoints and routes will not transfer from GPSNavX and MacENC to some Raymarine chartplotters (such as the RL70CRC which I have)?

According to the Raymarine website, the RL70CRC will accept these NMEA messages...

http://www.raymarine.com/raymarine/Produ...ourceID=65

GLL, GGA, GLC, GTD, VTG, BWC, BWR, RMA, RMB,RMC, XTE, VHW, HDG, HDM, HDT, DBT, DPT, APB,VLW, MWV,MTW,WPL, RTE and ZDA

When Type is set to "Other" in the GPS Panel Settings drawer, GPSNavX and MacENC will use the $GPWPL message to send waypoints TO the GPS unit. It looks as this message is supported on the RL70CRC which should allow for waypoint transfer. The same for routes with the $GPRTE message.

GPSNavX and MacENC will use the same port (not repeat port) that the GPS data (i.e. position, sog, cog) are received to send waypoints and routes on.

A quick way to transfer a route or waypoint FROM a GPS is to activate it on the GPS unit (typically with a GOTO button).

Hi,

Couldn't you just use the bluetooth multiplexer?
http://www.shipmodul.com/en/miniplex-42bt.html

Would this be able to receive/send from E80 and MacENC?

Yes the ShipModul Miniplex 41 or 42 in the Serial, USB or Bluetooth will work just fine. Check the Shipmodul download page for the OS X Config tool for the Miniplex 41/42.

As I understand them, however, the Miniplexes will only take Seatalk from the Raymarine's and convert it to NMEA, but don't convert NMEA to Seatalk. Hence it's only useful if you don't need to send NMEA to a Raymarine component that only talks Seatalk. Not a problem if you have the right mix of instruments.

Until recently I had been unsuccessful in transferring waypoints and routes from GPSNavX to my Raymarine RL70CRC chartplotter. I was using a Raymarine Seatalk/NMEA Interface Box and serial cable with a Keystone Serial Adapter to get NMEA data to GPSNavX and back. Only one or two waypoints in a route would transfer and the lat/lon position and name would be bogus (several thousand miles from the real location). I could, however, get an active waypoint to show on the chartplotter screen with appropriate stearing data for the autopilot.

The problem turned out to be the Seatalk/NMEA Interface Box. I just installed a MiniPlex 41-BT with the Seatalk/NMEA Interface Box supplying the NMEA data from its RS232 port, but now the NMEA Out from the Miniplex goes directly to one of the NMEA In channels on the chartplotter (instead of back to the Seatalk/NMEA Interface Box and then to the chartplotter via Seatalk).

Problem solved. Now everything works as it should. Thanks again for designing such an excellent program. Maybe this post will help someone else with the same problem.

The problem is not with the Raymarine instruments but rather with their SeaTalk to NMEA converter box. The doucmentation is not well written and it does not faithly converted Seatalk to NMEA nor NMEA to Seatalk.

I would strong recommend not using it. Use a MiniPlex 41-BT or the NMEA output / input on another Raymarine devices - chart plotter, ST60 repeater etc.
