Tried all that - actually was simply trying to connect to a local open wireless network that was coming in strongly on Airport. The Quicky utility showed a good connection and the Network Status window in the System Preferences showed a good connection but no software would recognize it. Originally sounded like I had some software setting wrong but the Quicky people thought it was the hardware. I sent it off Monday so I'll keep you posted.
