Title: iPad and autopilot
#1
I note from a previous post that external Bluetooth and USB GPS receivers and multiplexers are not supported. Therefore, is there any way of outputting NMEA 0183 data to an autopilot? iPad 3G/ GPSnavX

I don't see an iPad as a viable autopilot controller because as soon as one wants to check email, read the web, skip to the next song the app (i.e. the one controlling the AP) in use exits. Autopilots are not happy unless they have a constant stream of NMEA data.

With iOS 4 (coming to iPad this fall) there is limited multi-tasking, but sending NMEA data in the background is not one of the approved tasks. So same issue.

It would be possible for iNavX to send NMEA data to an Autopilot or for that matter any NMEA listener. This could be accomplished via WiFi to the DigiConnect Wi-SP which could be connected to an Autopilot.

OTOH GPSNavX and MacENC can control an Autopilot as Mac OS X is truly multi-tasking.
