Title: GPSNavX 3.70 Overview function is great!
#1
The new GPSNavX 3.70 overview function is great! And even fast on my iBook G3 with OS 10.4.
It are these little features like these that do make this prog so wonderfull.

GPSNavX team keep up the great work!

From the update newletter/email:
Hearing that Sailmail will come to MAC too is even better.
And that BSB charts will be free from 2006 on is even the best news. Unfortunately we here in EU will continue to pay! :-(

I cannot take credit for it. I blatantly copied the idea from Navimaq. Anyone out there playing around with the alpha OS X Navimaq? Please post your feedback.

Ah Navimaq is still in the making? It's longtime since I last checked Barcosoft homepage. I wanted a navigation prog fro my Sharp ZAURUS 5500. Unfortunately they dicontinued the great prog when Sharp withdraw it's PDAs from US/EU market.

At first sight Navimaq looks much like GPSNavX.

I haven't tried everything with the overview function (GPSNavX), but this is what I found on this page of the old MAC OS8 version of Navimaq:

http://www.navstore.com/navimaq.asp

Quote:Overview This window shows a thumbnail view of the entire chart section currently open with an icon for the vessel. If the Overview window is active (you can tell by the stars in the title bar) the area being viewed may be changed by dragging the double lined box (magenta in color displays) to the area you wish to view. The Overview also displays a single lined box (green in color display) to show the area that can be printed. Logpoints, Waypoints and Chartmarks can also be viewed on the Overview or the settings can be changed so that they will not be displayed.

I don't know if your version of overview can also show the position of the boat but I see it as a great idea.

Except the $200 price, lack of AIS/Radar, GRIB file, BSB4/5 support and Tides. In the screen shots the chart image looks allot more grainy.

It will be interesting to see what others have to say about Navimaq.

As Navimaq is still being developped, I think they will include AIS and BSB4/5 support, as the Seafarer Prog for LINUX from the same company has these features. But this is just a guess.
