I've been digging around w/o much luck trying to find charts that will run under GPSNavX or MacENC to cover the E & W Atlantic, from Ushuaia up to Spain. Can anyone point me to a source? (and I don't mind paying).

Some of you may use what up to now has been known as theyr.net - an excellent resource for accurate short-term weather modelling.

This year, what had been a free service for years went to subscription-only. Still well worth the 1 euro per day. Now it seems there's been a palace coup, with theyr.net becoming theyr.tv, and someone else owning and promoting theyr net.

Confused? I am. Anybody else use theyr?
Check out theyr.tv - 14 day free trial is worth a look anyway.

Does anyone know of a free source for Bahamas charts?

MacENC has supported "Course Up" display orientation for vector charts for quite a while. The next release will support "Course Up" orientation for raster charts. This is handy to keep perspective while sailing South, but the downside is besides the chart rotating, all the text including sounding is oriented up side down.

A Mac screen can be way too bright at night. While GPSNavX and MacENC do offer "night" or "Low Light" viewing, there are a couple other tips.

[control] [option] [command] + 8 will invert the screen colors

Dark Adapted will let you control the screen brightness one color at a time..

I'm palying around with the Request GRIB menu in GPSNavX (4.45) and I like this function.
But I think some features would be very useful:

1) clicking on the requested GRIB file in the mail application opens the WorldChart. It would be more useful to have GPSNavX open the GRIB file with the actually opened chart. I know I can open the GRIB file via the GRIB Open menu, but the other way one doesn't need to save the file to specific drawer and have to reopen the GRIB file.

2) another helpful feature would be to have a hint (name) displayed as to what GRIB file is just opened (Wave heights, Air- Sea-Temp, Air Pressure etc.)

3) GRIB files showing precipitation forecasts

4) the possibility to request GRIB Data inside GPSNavX for a given date (OK we already now d have forecast for some days and more than 3 days forecasts aren't very reliable, but having weather data over a longer period allows for better journey planning ;-)

5) my last request concerning weather would be to have some color like the screenshots from the SCANNAV application for windows.

For those of you who use a Power/Data cable (i.e. bare wires) to connect to your GPS, we are now offering an easy crimp on adapter that can connect to a Keyspan USB to serial adapter. Previoulsy one would have to solder a DB-9 connector on. Now just crimp the bare wires from the GPS power data / cable to our adapter then plug it into the Keyspan adapter. More details here..

Note: If your GPS has a data cable that terminates with a DB-9 then this adapter is not needed.

Scenario:

Current - iBook running VirtualPC (which includes a copy of Windows XP)

Future - MacBook running Windows via Parallels

When moving from the iBook to the MacBook, do you need to buy the full version of Windows or does the VirtualPC qualify for the [much cheaper] upgrade version? Haven't found the answer on Microsoft's website.
