I really don't know whether to opt for raster or vector charts, and therefore MacENC or MacGPS.
Although my boat is in the US, she'll be coming back to the UK this year, and what I want from the software is good chart information, and the ability to overlay GRIB files.
I like all the extra inf. that Vector provides, but I find the chart catalogues bewildering.
Can anyone tell me which vector chart supplier does the best charts that work with ENC, and I'll take it from there.
thanks
PS I've tried both demos and the MacGPS seems much faster.

OS X Multiplexor Config Utility

I am developing a configuration utility for the ShipModul MiniPlex 42USB Multiplexor. A Multiplexor allows up tp four NMEA talkers (instruments, GPS, AIS, etc) to be connected. It then consolidates that NMEA stream into one USB port. It also has two output ports to send data to listeners (autopilots, radar, VHF).
The utility will allow the MiniPlex 42USB to be configured for various modes of operation offerring quite a bit of flexibility in ones configuration.
I expect this new Utility will be complete in a couple weeks and it will be FREE to all who wish to download it.

Celestial Navigation program for OS X

I will be taking a Celestial Navigation course with our local Canadian Power and Sail Squadron next fall.
At the local chandlery there is a hand-held celestial navigation 'computer' available - Celesticomp V. Almost $500 Cdn.
Does anyone know of a software program available for Mac OS X?
I'm in the process of computerizing my boat for next year, and it makes sense to use a software solution, if available.
Cheers,
Alan

I have a Garmin 182C onboard, which I've used for coastal navigation in northern Florida waters. I would like to connect my GPS system to an Apple power book... I may purchase the newest version, or I may use my 12" G4 power book with memory upgrade and superdrive. What else do I need in terms of hardware and software?
Many thanks for your input and suggestions.

ENC charts produced by Italian Hydro Inst.

It appears that the Italian(Navy) Hydrographic Institute produces Italian ENC charts (they define them as ENC) which, according to a communication I received, are sold by either C-Map in a CM-93 format or Primar/UKHO in an S-63 format. Does any body know if MacENC can open either of the two formats.
Thanks for the help

NASA SSB with Multimode

Having got everyting working with my ST60 instruments I've now changed my boat and am faced with doing it all again with a set of ST50 instuments.
Not sure I will bother this time. Plugging in my Garmin handheld GPS to the IBook running GPSNavX does just as well.
Embarking on a longer cruise this year and am not convinced that spending north of £3000 on fully fitted send/receive SSB kit is good value.
However I am attracted to the NASA SSB receiver which will give me listening ability. This can also be plugged into the I-Book which will enable me to decode satellite images and weatherfaxes using "Multimode" software. Not too worried about SSB transmit capability.
Has anybody done this:?: Or are there other solutions I am not aware of:?:

I am in the process of catloguing all of the various components, parts, equipment, etc. on my boat. It has been an amazing process and I can't believe the amount of 'stuff' I've invested in.
Does anyone know of a ready-made database available in Filemaker Pro? I've searched around a little bit but not luck so far.
