Title: Are CM 93 charts compatible with S57 charts?
#1
Due to the other thread concerning OpenCPN and CM93 charts and compatibility with MacENC I searched the net and did find this link:

http://www.jeppesenmarine.com/cmworld/cmworldinfo.asp

There are 2 quotes on this site that let me think that CM93 could become available on Mac computers:

Quote:CM-93/3 is compliant with S-57 Edition 3.0

CM-93/3 has been designed by C-MAP to be fully compliant with Edition 3.0 of S-57, the international standard issued by the IHO that defines the format and contents of electronic charts for use in ECDIS systems.

CM-93/3 supports all the new object classes and attributes defined by S-57 Ed. 3.0, as well as the S-57 data model and updating mechanism. This means that official electronic charts, issued in S-57/3 format by a Hydrographic Office, may be converted to CM-93/3 maintaining their original structure, properties and contents. The conversion procedure is currently under evaluation by the relevant Authorities so that it can be officially certified.

So MacENC is S57 compliant too.

Quote:CM-93/3 is compatible with all hardware platforms and operating systems

CM-93/3 makes no use of floating point numbers, to increase its compatibility with various hardware platforms and operating systems. The compression and encryption algorithms implemented in the format have been extensively tested on a number of different processors and systems.

What I really like about CM93 charts is the 3D possibility! (MaxSea/Time Zero)

Seeing Cmap support implemented within MacENC or PolarNavy would be an extremely interesting development.

A lot of the discussions on this forum regarding cartography, and the merits of different iPhone and Mac navigation apps are skewed towards the assumption that cartography is available free of charge from the NOAA.

However, it's worth bearing in mind that approximately half of users on this forum are non-US, and rely on either commercial S57 charts (not a particularly convenient or economical way to purchase cartography) or MacENC's support for Navionics.

So, I for one, support any developments that increase the choice of charts available for users!
Never knowingly overcanvassed!

Hello,

Jeppesen (C-Map) proposes some Software Development Kit (SDK 4.0) for the development and the implementation of the CM93 Edition 3 vector charts by OEMs in their own software.
But I think that the SDK is only compatible for the Windows platform and C-Map have no solution for Linux/MacOSX.
