I must be missing something here! I'm trying to put in waypoints of specific locations, and I can't figure out how to do it.

For example, I've ID'd where our mooring is, using Google Maps, and clicking on it I get a metric lat/long to 6 decimal places.

I set my prefs in iNavX to show metric lat/long, but there doesn't seem to be a way for me to key in the exact co-ordinates; if I click on the lat field (for example) it brings up a "scroll wheel" type display that only lets me go to 2 decimal places, which is nowhere near accurate enough.

What I'd like to be able to do is ID particular points' precise lat/long using various options, enter them into iNavX, and then fine-tune them if necessary when I'm actually there.

Is there a simple way to do this that I've missed?

Also, I've got this dud waypoint in there now, and I can't delete it. All others bring up a delete button, but not this one. Any reason for that?

Agree the D.D format could use some more precision on the editing of Lat/Lon. I will look into adding that. If possible, use the more common marine format of D*M.M which has more precision.

Possibly you are navigating to the waypoint you want to delete, so try selecting "Cancel Goto" on the "Waypoints" view. Then attempt to delete the waypoint.

While you're looking at this, it would be very helpful to open the Lat/Lon fields for edit so that we could copy or paste the Lat/Lon vaules.

Copy works by double tapping the lon or lat edit field.

Paste is more challenging because the spinner control for selecting lat/lon does not have keyboard controls allowing for the character editing of the field. Also the issue of how to interpret pasted content arrises.

I must be using the wrong screens or have an incorrect setting.

I can't double tap the latitude or longitude fields to copy on either the Waypoint or Instrument layouts. On the Waypoint layout, double tapping just opens the scroll.

Waypoint view. Apologies, it is iPad iOS 3.2 only, but the next release of iNavX "copy" lat/lon command will also work on iPhone (iOS 4).

Thanks for that. Turning off GoTo let me delete the dud waypoint, as you suggested.

I experimented with the different formats. You are right, DMM and DMS give much more precision. DMS seems to give the most, letting me adjust location within the length of the boat. It will be interesting to compare next time I'm aboard, to see how close I got using Google Maps and a guess as to which boat/mooring might be ours...

More precision with DD would be useful, given that Google Maps seems to use this (or is it possible to change this in a preferences setting somewhere?).

One more request, if it's just the way I'm doing things. Changing the units means I had to go all the way out to iNavX, to Setup, then come back, reload the map to get to Waypoints. Is there a quicker way of doing this -- although I am only talking of a few seconds to do this? But I was jumping around a bit, experimenting with the different positioning options.

Changing the units is not a common occurrence so the decision was made to leave it on the main iNavX "Setup" instead of taking up more valuable screen real-estate (specifically iPhone) with another button on the chart or more screen nesting.

The standard and default for marine navigation is D*M.M. In fact one should use caution using the other choices as it could result in a user navigation error if they are mixed up.

Thanks. Actually, it's even easier. In Google Maps, if you go to a point, and right click "What's here", it brings up the location all decimal, and a green arrow. Click on that, and it brings up an info box with the location in DMS. If I'd done that yesterday, I wouldn't have had to ask this question...
