I am seeing an increasing number of inappropriate postings, typically advertising unrelated goods and services (e.g. handbags), especially in the Windows/BootCamp topic, of course. Since I get an email when there is a new posting, this is annoying and surely against the list's Acceptable Use Policy?
Who deals with this? Please can they attend to it firmly.
thank you

These are spambots posting these. The only real solution would be to require human entered key upon positing as many forums require.

If these postings are from SpamBots, then they have successfully joined the group and should be barred.
I would be willing to enter a key. For an eGroup I run I have moderation of the first posting from any member. You can tell immediately whether the poster is genuine and it works well, and, as only active members post, the burden is not heavy.

I'll look into what options the software supports.
They are becoming more of a pain these days.

If I had the ability to delete the spam, I would be happy to do so as I frequent this forum often.

I've enabled Capcha on the topic posting page. I realise that this is a bit of a pain, but will hopefully further reduce the quantity of spam postings we've had recently.

I think that is a wise choice.

Just had another spam posting. I think these are manual rather than automated bots...

Another rash of SPAM today. May be humans are joining and going through the procedure.
Any chance of moderating first postings from new joiners?
I appreciate the work you do to run this forum.
