Title: Feature request - grib from text file
#1
Hi, I see 3.2.8 can import GRB data from x-Traverse and email.
Would it be possible to add import from text file or from cut and paste? Reason, we will be traveling with ssb and getting grins from PC. I can pull files from PC via http file exchange, but I have no way to get email on iPad at sea.
Thanks!

You can transfer GRIB files (and all others you need) from PC to iPad with iPad USB cable simply with "Awesome Files" app ($1) that get files dragged&dropped to iTunes > [your device] > Apps > Documents.
Then a long tap on the file in "Awesome Files" to "Open with : iNavX"

I have updated the iNavX tips and tricks for GRIB Weather Forecasts and Importing Waypoints, Routes and Tracks to show how to use a PC or Mac and iTunes and Awesome Files..

This 'trick' will also probably work with any file management app that allows you to move files between a Mac/PC and ipad/iphone. I didnt have Awsome installed so I tried it with FileApp and Dropbox and they both worked. Only problem I had was operator error - didn't realize I did not have the 'show grib' switch flipped on in the iNavX prefs...

Any app that supports the Document Interaction Controller will work. This iOS mechanism lets apps handle files not natively supported by the app. The apps that support this behavior include Mail, Safari, Awesome Files and probably many more. Basically these apps allow you to hold down on any file type, and then select the app that supports the file. iNavX natively supports GRIB, GPX and KML files.

So am I reading this right that I need this "Awesome Files" app to transfer via iTunes? I thought I read that with 3.2.9 that iTunes transfer was included? I was looking for it in the section where the other apps "sync" files like Motion-X, where it shows the routes and waypoints that will be synced. Thanks, Joel

Yes you would need the 0.99c "Awesome Files" if you want to transfer GPX, KML, or GRIB files to iNavX via iTunes on your Mac or PC. Otherwise you can transfer via email or X-Traverse.

Here is the change log for iNavX 3.2.9:

"Show Waypoint As" in the "Chart" Setup will allow waypoints to be displayed as their "Title" or "Icon" on the Chart view.
"Show Light Sectors" when enabled in the "Chart" Setup will display the light sector navigational aids (Navionics charts).
More distance choices in the "Waypoint Arrival Distance" view.
"Scroll To Waypoint" in the Waypoint pop over menu will scroll the chart to the Next waypoint in the selected route.
Improved formatting of the Instruments banner.
"Night View" in the Chart Setup will also dim the Instruments banner.
Tapping the position icon on the chart will use the lat/lon of the position icon for any new waypoint.
Improved display of GRIB forecasts with Current or Tidal Streams.
$GPGGA NMEA message sent when "AP Repeat" enabled in the TCP/IP NMEA Client.
