Title: Navionics charts and mac
#1
so are navionics charts ENC charts? And if they are and i have bought a ton of them for a trip to New Zealand from the Caribbean, then can i also read them on my mac and share them with my raymarine chartplotter. Then i could downlaod GRIB files to more accurate charts than the single World Charts...and then of course the world would be a perfect place, PCs would not exist and all i would have to do is buy MAC ENC!

Why do i think that life cannot be that simple!

Navionics does offer S-57/S-63 charts. I do not know if the charts you have are in S-57 format. The best way to determine that is to see if an ENC_ROOT folder exists and if so does a Catalog.031 file exist in that folder. If this is the case then the next step is to get Permits to use them on your Mac. You would get these permits from your chart supplier using the UserPermit displayed in the MacENC Chart Manager.

How are the navionics charts distributed? Are they on a CD?

I am buying the charts through budget marine. I am guessing they will come as the cards that fit into the raymarine chartplotter, so do i need to get a card reader of some sort? Also, is there a cost involved in obtaining the permit?

I kind of doubt there is a card reader, but I could be proven wrong. I would check with Navionics and make sure they are S-57 format. Yes permits typically cost money, but are included with the chart purchase.

The only Navionics S-57 supplier I know is the German one [url=http://www.chartworld.com/]WorldChart . Here are downloadable charts and folios. Usable with an user permit, of course.
