1) Start MacENC (v5.00 or later)
2) Select "TCP/IP" on the "GPS" menu
3) In the Client (Receive NMEA data)
- Enter Host as 66.235.48.168
- Enter Port as 3047
- Select the "Enable" check box
4) Select "Connect" on "AIS/RADAR" menu
5) Select "Settings" button
6) Check the "Use GPS Port" button
AIS Targets should list into the AIS panel. Select any target and press "Scroll to"
If you wish to have the targets sorted from a GPS position either connect to a GPS or use the GPS simulator.
You now have your own VTS system!
The 66.235.48.168 AIS host has receivers in the Pacific North West, Southern California, Chesapeake bay and Portland Maine.

It is possible to track ships anywhere in the world if you can find an IP based AIS NMEA data server for a specific region. I only know of that server for the US.
And of course if you have your own AIS receiver you could broadcast its data stream to the world with MacENC using the TCP/IP NMEA data server.

Is this possible only with the MacENC and not with the GPSNavX?

Is the server still up? I've been using this server for awhile ( have not used it in the past 4 months) and now it seems to be down. I don't know if its me or them.

That Ip seems to no longer work. I am not getting any answer when I telnet to port 3047. ICMP seems to be either blocked or the host is down. I am running an NMAP on the IP now. NMAP came back with host down, after scanning all ports.
Ideas?

Any update on this for US locations? I'm taking a CG coarse and we were discussing AIS - made me curious about it again. I saw on another post an address for one that works showing Sweden.

And that one is down too.
This is one of a challenges of development for NMEA - getting good data is difficult and sources on the net are few.
