How do I connect a bluetooth GPS to GPSNavX it is a Holux `gpslim240 Bluetooth GPS Receiver I bought from Navicore.

Though it doesn't specify a Holux GPS but it should work the same way!

Sometimes you are asked a code which is most times either 0000 (4x Zero) or 1234. Check you Holux manual.

In GPSNavX /MacENC select

GPS -> Connect

Click on Settings: in TYPE select OTHER
in PORT select something /dev/cu.BT-GPS-XXXXX
(this one depends on what BT GPS you have connected)
in RATE select 4800 baud

Be sure to have your BT-GPS switched on, or the BT port isn't shown sometimes.

A friend of mine had a HOLUX GPS connected to GPSNavX without a problem.

The Bluetooth manager see my Holux GPS but the MacBook can't pair with it!

So I tried to connect thru USB, I installed the prolific driver, but in the GPS menu of GPSNavX, I can't see any USB port like /dev/cu.usbserial

Why do you need the prolific driver? Isn't this driver just for USB to serial connection?
The Holux GPS you do mention does have an USB connector, so the prolific driver isn't needed, isnt it?

If the Holux and Mac don't pair you probably do type the wrong pairing code!

After Google search I've found that the Holux needs '0000' as pairing code.

It is very important to setup BT serial ports as shown in this PDF doc

Goto to system prefs and select Bluetooth Manager.
Under devices select the BT Holux and click on edit serial ports.

Continue as stated in the PDF file.

It says one needs a special USB cable to use it as GPS mouse:

IMHO this cable acts like a Null Modem cable as used with 9 pin serial devices!

And uninstall the prolific driver! You only need it for USB to 9PIN serial cables!

For whatever reason ,my Bluetooth connection is working today, with exactly the same setup ! Looks like my bluetooth is a little bit erratic so I'd like to have USB connection as a back-up

I have 2 GPS

- Garmin GPS60 with real USB connection it came with a USB Windows driver, I have been able to connect it to a demo version of Fugawi I run under Windows XP with Parallels Desktop, I installed the driver and in Fugawi I selected Garmin USB, no port selected and it's working. In GPSNavX and can't see the GPS, I tried to select the SIRF USB or other, but no luck. Garmin didn't provide any driver for OSX.

- Holux GPSSlim240 today it's working in Bluetooth but seems erractic. it came with a data USB cable (I tested with the Garmin GPS) and the Manual said to install a driver, it came with a OSX driver that looks like a lot the prolific driver. But once again I can't see the GPS in GPSNavX.

Any suggestion ? My understanding is that the Garmin use a true USB connection but the Holux use a USB/serial port. In each case, what type and what port shoul I select in GPSNavX ? In the port drop-of menu I see 3 ports
/dev/cu.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync
/dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem
/dev/cu.BluetoothGPSReceiver-Bl-1

I used to have the prolific driver for my USB2serial cable on my iBook.

The cable was a normal PC USB2serial cable.

It worked well with my 2 Garmin GPS (Garmin 12 and Garmin 72) and GPSNavX/MacENC, except for transfering routes and waypoints from the Mac to both GPS.

Last year I bought the Keyspan USB2serial adapter and it works.

If your Macbook sees the Holux via Bluetooth your Bluetooth setup seems to be a bit confused!

I suggest just delete all BT devices on your Mac and do pair them again to have a clean BT setup.

As for the USB connection...

If GPSNavX can't see the USB connection, first connect the GPS via USB, switch it on and then start GPSNavX!
I had the same problem with my Garmin 72. If batteries are empty in the GPS MacENC wouldn't show the /dev/cu.keyspan device. After I reinstalled batteries and restarted MacENC the device was shown again.

OS X only shows devices which are connected and switched on.

I deleted all BT device, the Bluetooth manger shows no device, I connected the GARMIN GPS thru USB, started GPSNavX and

still no USB port shown, no more dev/cu.BluetoothGPSReceiver-Bl-1 that used to be for the Holux Bluetooth, and still the 2 ports /dev/cu.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync and /dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem.

To be sure, my GARMIN is connected thru a real USB cable , not a serial cable and a serial/USB adapter.

I set up again this topic, cause I tried unsuccessfully to setup a Holux Slim 240. I let you see the following slide show of screenshots. At the end of the settings, the Holux is never active, or sometime few seconds. I tested the bluetooth connection with Bluetooth Explorer (Developer Tools) but the Holux can only be paired a short moment. Never arrived to obtain datas in GPS Panel.
Holux Bluetooth Settings
The leds of the Holux showed correct datas transmission and positionning receipt. Has anybody a good idea ?
