Title: Which used Mac for Mac ENC?
#1
The Dec 2007 Primate logs blog shows a Geekbench performance chart for Macs over quite a wide range.

Suppose you were to advise a friend on buying a used Mac to run either GPSNavX or MacENC, what model would be adequate and why?

Apart from screen redraw time on opening charts is there any compelling advantage in moving up from say, a G4 iBook at 867 Mhz to an Intel based MabBook or Mac Mini?

Does the addition of an AIS receiver shift your choice significantly?

Please refer to the Geekbench score in your reply. The iBook G4 867 has a Geekbench score of 494 while the 8 core Mac Pro 3Ghz has a score of 8581

Minimum recommended..

GPSNavX > 250 GB Score 10.3.9 or later, 512+ MB RAM
MacENC > 1000 GB Score 10.4 or later, 1+ GB RAM

MacENC renders charts in real-world scales, as such this takes considerably more processing power than GPSNavX which just scales in equal pixel amounts. AIS does not add much overhead
