removing magnet from globalsat gps sensor
Posted by: Peter Smith - December 27, 2009 21:05 - Forum: General - Replies (6)

I've had a Globalsat BU-353 GPS sensor for my GPSNavX for the past two years and have been very careful to keep the sensor, with its strong magnet, away from the body of my laptop and from anything else it might magnetically erase. But I read on the Globalsat website that the magnet is "easily removed", and I'd like to remove it. Has anyone done this and can report on success? I took mine apart but that didn't help any. Is the magnet really external to the bottom of the sensor and priable off?
Thanks for any advice!

Download Canadian charts from Fugawi for less $$$
Posted by: dvandenburgh - December 25, 2009 22:35 - Forum: MacENC & GPSNavX - Replies (1)

Fugawi is now offering their Canadian charts for slightly less money if you download directly from their X-Traverse site. Here's a link to (as example) their charts for the North Channel of Lake Huron - normally $75.

  Hackintosh & GPSNavX
Posted by: dreuge - December 25, 2009 14:06 - Forum: Hardware - Replies (3)

I own several macs, and I have used my macbookpro w/ GPSNavX and usb GPS on short sailing trips. I am disappointed with the lack of reasonable DC power options for macs, but I cannot come to grips with using a windows based system.

I have a friend who recently purchased a dell mini 10v for $270. I watched him installed Snow Leopard rather simply (just google hackentosh and dell mini 10v). I was extremely impressed, and I borrowed it for a day of sailing. To my surprise GPSNavX & my usb gps all worked fine.

Now I am tempted to purchase my own dell mini 10v mac system for the boat. The mini 10v with 6 hr battery & 12 VDC adapter is now going for under $300. This seems too practical to pass by. Has anyone had experience with the mini 10v or the likes?

  Navigation 'window'
Posted by: Larry H - December 22, 2009 22:34 - Forum: MacENC & GPSNavX - Replies (1)

Greetings,

Can anyone direct me to an explanation of the Navigation window? I see the window at startup in the MacENC trial version, but I cannot find out anything about it in the help menu.

Thanks

Larry H

Using a Nuvi 500 with MacEnc
Posted by: Bazzer - December 22, 2009 10:04 - Forum: MacENC & GPSNavX - Replies (1)

Is it possible to use a Nuvi 500 with MacENC? I have tried using the various settings on the GPS panel, but no luck. Ideally I would like to transfer waypoints and routes to and fro and use the Nuvi as a GPS to MacENC.
Thanks,

  using multiple charts (quilting)
Posted by: filthyfathom - December 21, 2009 10:14 - Forum: MacENC & GPSNavX - Replies (6)

Good day to all,

I'm brand new to the forum, mac and macENC all in one !

I am trying to lay off a route that uses up to 12 different charts.

My question is :
Is it possible to quilt multiple charts using macENC ?

Thanks for reading !

Changing chart orientation to direction of travel?
Posted by: djleu - December 20, 2009 03:53 - Forum: MacENC & GPSNavX - Replies (1)

I wonder if it is possible to change the orientation of the charts in MacENC from north display to the direction of travel? If so, how might this be done? Thanks, in advance!

Cheers,
Don

  Not showing details below !:150000
Posted by: Seiler - December 19, 2009 02:51 - Forum: MacENC & GPSNavX - Replies (9)

Hi, just a question if this is a software or map problem? Found that a small part on my ENC chart purchased from Mapworld don´t show details below 1:150.000 scale...this is just a small area south of Barcelona in the Spanish east cost.

Have reinstalled the maps, but the problem still exist.

Using MacENC Version 7.20 (7.20)

Attaching screen pic.

Thanks for any comments.

  Waypoints
Posted by: Larry H - December 18, 2009 11:56 - Forum: MacENC & GPSNavX - Replies (1)

I have a new Mac mini and have downloaded the MacENC trial version.

My question is how many waypoints can be stored in the MacENC program?

Also how many routes can be created?

My boating is from the Puget Sound to SE Alaska and I already have over 500 waypoints and 46 routes in my Furuno GP-32 GPS that I would like to transfer to the MacENA program.

The trial version on MacENC will not save any waypoints or routes, and I cannot find the answer anywhere I have looked.

Thanks,

Larry H
