How to buy GPSNavX version 6
Posted by: Fronsdal - March 25, 2011 23:11 - Forum: MacENC & GPSNavX - Replies (3)

I had a hard time updating to OS 10.6.6,
a prerequisite for GPSNav X version 6,
so after I succeeded I really want to get
version 6 of GPSNavX.
For all I can see, however, only version 5.5 is offered in the Apple store. Can someone help me with this? Thanks, Christian

Which version of GPSNavX is best
Posted by: Fronsdal - March 24, 2011 08:00 - Forum: MacENC & GPSNavX - Replies (3)

Smile I am about to purchase GPSNavX to install
on a new Macbook, OS 10.6.5.

Is there any real diffrence beteen the two versions that are offered?
Support is wonderful from NavX, but then it tends
to be good from Ap-ple as well.

Thanks for suggestions, Christian

  File Conversion To/From Northstar.dat files
Posted by: Steve Cohen - March 23, 2011 07:55 - Forum: MacENC & GPSNavX - Replies (2)

I currently have a Northstar 6000i chartplotter on board and from my research, I've discovered that the Northstar uses .dat files. Will I be able to upload the waypoints/routes in MacENC from my laptop to the Northstar? Is there a conversion program that would work?

  File Conversion MacENC Raymarine
Posted by: drctdby - March 22, 2011 17:23 - Forum: MacENC & GPSNavX - Replies (9)

It would be a great help to those of us who use MacENC and have RayMarine electronics on board to have a way to convert ".gpx" to "archive.fsh" in one step.
I moved over to Mac last year but still have my Vaio computer on which I can install Ray Tech Planner. After I do that I can import a .gpx file from MacENC (using GPSBabel to convert ".gpx" into ".rwf" which is what the Ray Tech Planner needs) and then the Ray Tech Planner program will export it as an "archive.fsh" (onto a CF card) which is what is needed to import into the RayMarine E-Series.
Needless to say, these multiple steps can become tiring!

  Inavx/altitude instrument
Posted by: Copasetic - March 19, 2011 20:37 - Forum: iNavX - Replies (2)

I was working with a sextant on land and wanted to know "height of eye", that is height of sextant above the water. So my eye is almost six feet and I was standing on a small dune, perhaps six feet above the water. So I checked the altitude on my navx operating on my iPad 3G enabled. It said my altitude was 0.
So why is that?

  Aye Tides for ipad
Posted by: Bazzer - March 18, 2011 20:24 - Forum: Mr. Tides - Replies (2)

When you think it is good,it just gets better. I'm referring to Aye Tides for iPad, not a cheap app, but well worth $9.99 in my view. Now all I want is for inavx to calculate how long a route will take if I give it a start time. Or how about what time I should set out if I want to arrive at the golden gate bridge at slack tide if I leave Benicia and make 5knots,!!!

  iNavX 3.2.3 available
Posted by: GPSNavX - March 18, 2011 17:56 - Forum: iNavX - No Replies

Available as a free update in the iTunes app store. iNavX 3.2.3 adds:

NV Verlag Region 3.2 Long Island Sound - 2010 ed.
NV Verlag Region 12.1 Virgin Islands - 2010 ed.
Fixes a bug where some X-Traverse chart regions would fail to download.

To insure you have the latest version of iNavX on your device select "App Store", then select "Updates".

With Solid State Drives becoming an option on most Macs I recommend this choice for speed and reliability..

Lately I have had the opportunity to use iNavx on my iPad during racing a small boat. I also use MacENC on the big boat for the same purpose. There are 4 things I would like to see on iNavx, and the second 2 on MacENC.

1. Auto next when navigating a planned route.

2. A new type of waypoint, or danger point. This is the ability to set a certain position, say a rock, as a danger point with the ability to set an individual distance around it. This point would give a warning when you enter this circle whether it is included in the route or not.

3. Similar to 2, the ability to set each waypoint with it's own arrived circle.

4. The ability to save a track longer than 50NM.
