We are planning on buying an intel based ibook in the new year to facilitate using winlink/sailmail/macenc etc. offshore. I would like to interconnect the autopilot/gps/radar/ais/vhf/ etc. to the computer. Should I be looking for a miniplex lite or the more enhanced nm41usb? Haven't got any bluetooth enabled items at the moment, Am I being shortsighted by not going for the bluetooth enabled multiplexer?

I doubt that the Miniplex Lite will do what you need to do with this many NMEA sources. I would recommend getting the 42 rather than the 41 as the 42 is more configurable (in terms of filtering) than the 41. If you want to bring your AIS in thru the mux, you'll need the BT version, if you would rather not have a wireless connection between your computer then go for the USB version and bring the AIS in thru another USB port via a Keyspan adapter. An added benefit to the USB version is that the computer can supply power to the mux, the BT version needs an external source. I have used both and would recommend either, although I have had the occasional loss of the BT connection, a BT issue not a Mac, MacENC or mux issue (we think...).
