Title: NMEA data from Instruments Issue
#1
I have:
  • [li]MacENC, 10.4.11, MBP[/li][li]Raymarine Instruments ST60+ series (AP, Tridata)[/li][li]Raymarine autohelm 300 AP computer[/li][li]Garmin GPS 128 NMEA out to NMEA in on AP computer[/li][li]NMEA out on AP computer to MBP via serial to usb[/li]

MacEnc is seeing NMEA data: lat/long, SOG, heading OK. But not depth, wind, etc. The indicator blinks yellow and examing the data some is yellow. See Screenshot .

Thanks!
Gil

In your screen shots I see the $IIHDM and $IIHDT for heading, but I don't see the NMEA data for wind or depth..

Most likely some sort of configuration in your instrument system to enable the required NMEA data messages for the other data.

Is the Seatalk bus from the Wind and Depth instruments connected to the AP computer?

The "Yellow" sentences indicate data not of that panels' type.
for example...
$IIGLL is a GPS sentence and shows green in the GPS panel but yellow in the Instruments panel.
$IIHDG is an "Instruments" sentence (heading from your fluxgate that is connected to your AP computer) and shows yellow in the GPS panel but green in the instruments panel.

There are no wind or depth sentences present so my guess is that those instruments are not connected to the AP computer which is where you are getting the NMEA feed into the Mac.

I would suggest that the 300 AP computer is not converting all the Seatalk sentences on the Seatalk connecting the instruments to the corresponding NMEA sentences on the NMEA-out pins. This is a common Raymarine "trick". There could be a configuration option to fix this but most likely not.

I have an all Raymarine instrument systems and found that I had to use two NMEA connections to get all the data - one for GPS related data and one for instruments related data. You can see a diagram of my set up at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/crews_nest/549486483/

The AP computer has wind coming in. But, looking at the the manual (duh) it shows that the NMEA output does not include any wind data. It only sends out course info (headings, lat/lon, waypoint info, etc.). Too much trouble to get the data for now...

Thanks,
Gil
