Does anyone know of a detailed world chart available that works with MacENC and/or GPSNavX? When I was still on the dark side and using MaxSea they had several, including one (I believe C-Map) that was detailed enough for passagemaking except for the landfalls. The one with GPSNavX is not nearly as detailed. I've looked on the net but haven't found one. In fact I couldn't even find a 'world' chart.

Scot,
My apologizes... I just went to the web site I quoted you and it appears they are out of business... all the requests link to Maptech.
Maybe GPSNavX knows of another source?
Regards,
Jim

Sadly Maptech bought Marineplanner (and took many folks chart credits) and basically shut them down. Even the free US charts they now provide are unusable on a Mac. Very disappointing because marineplanner was a great source of International charts.

ARCS has almost exactly what I want - six or so charts that essentially cover the world. However I really don't want to use two apps (MacENC and PassegePlus) switching between the two for planning/longer passages and landfall/coastal. Just too much hassle.
I had tried MarinePlanner and was able to download one North Pacific chart from Maptech that DID work with MacENC (it was a .exe self extracting file that I dumped into VirtualPC to extract) but all of the rest of the ones I tried to download ran into 'technical problems', so basically Maptech  stuck it to us.

IMAPS SoftChart Coastpak region 450 contains "International Charts of the World."
I'm using it with GPSNavX.

The IMAPs is the same one previously offered by MarinePlanner and bought out by Maptech. I tried to get it some time ago but Maptech is no longer producing Region 450 (or apparently any other Softchart regions) and I haven't been able to find a retailer with one left.

chartworld.com may have an S-57/S-63 one, but I find their web page so difficult to navigate. If you are able to find one on chartworld contact me directly and I will give you assistance on loading it into MacENC.

I agree about Chartworld. I've spent a little time looking there but I'll try some more. If I find anything I'll let you know. Their site always seems to go into an endless loop when I try to go into the catalog using Safari, but seems to work with Firefox. Don't know what's going on there. Regardless, it's still hard to find what you want.

OK, I tried Chartworld. I actually downloaded their Chartbrowser and ran it in Virtual PC. It's much more user friendly, but slow as a dog in vPC. Anyway, there weren't any S-57/S-63s to be found covering the broad oceans, whether 'official', Navionics, or otherwise. They only exist in Paper or ARCS. I also went to the ic-enc and Primar/Stavanger sites and confirmed there. Since these appear to be generated country-by-country no country has apparently taken on themselves to create the large scale oceaning charts, similar to what C-Map has done. Hopefully the Brits will eventually convert their raster versions to enc. Until then looks like we're out of luck, unless someone has some other ideas.

Thanks Jim. There are some very interesting ones in there. Are these all Marine Planner downloads (i.e. public?)
I've found a place that claims to have some Softchart Region 450 (global planning) coming. It they actually show up I'll let people know. In the interim, if I find I already have some that you don't I'll go ahead and post them. I'd love to find some more for the South Pacific, plus some larger overview charts.

Jim,
Finally got on and was very pleased to find the Softchart_World charts. They appear to be the world planning charts I was looking for when I started this discussion. Next to download are the BC charts, since I'm headed there for the summer in a few weeks.
I'll look through all of my charts to see if there's anything I can add.

btw - anyone know why I can't auto-logon to this board? I can to the other boards I visit, but even checking the box everytime I log in doesn't seem to work.
