Title: NavX, a G4 Titanium, and?...
#1
I have a Mac G4 Titanium, on which I've installed NavX and the BBS East Coast (USA) charts from the available dvd. Using the Keyspan serial adapter, I've been trying to sync up an admittedly very old Garmin 12XL, but it's not being recognised. Is this a case of the firmware in the handheld simply being too antiquated for the Mac and/or NavX to recognize it? I did follow Garmin tech's instructions about setting up the system configurations, etc. But, still nothing. (Note that I'm an electronics dummy, so any suggestions of soldering the freem wire to the flux capacitor, bypassing the hamalstaf valve, will be met with a blank 'huh?' look on my face...)

Would the USB 'hockey puck' unit available direct from NavX work with this set-up? Anyone familiar with it?

Sincere thanks, --DS

Make sure you install the Keyspan OS X driver for your version of OS X.

Keyspan Drivers

Plug the Keyspan adapter in to your Mac's USB port

Plug the Garmin GPS into the Keyspan adapter

Make sure your Garmin GPS is in and set to transmit NMEA out

Start GPSNavX

Select "Connect" on the "GPS" menu

Select "Settings" button to open the Settings drawer

Select type 'Garmin'

Select port /dev/cu.KeySerial1

Select rate 4800

You should then see the UTC field of the GPS panel updated

If you don't want to mess around with all this then order the BU-353 USB GPS..
