GPSNAVX across the Atlantic in Jester Challenge

Bonjour
I wanted to inform all of you that I used GPSNAVX during the last (and first) JESTER CHALLENGE (a single handed cross atlantic non-race for sailing boats less than 30' - see : jesterinfo.org).
We (my FigarOne and myself) arrived first in Newport and only an other boat (a 22' vertue with junkrigging ) arrived out of 10 boat on the starting line.
I had no problem with GPSNAVX in 31 days crossing.
Last day (4th of July of course) I made a E-navigation (with a backup) from Cap Cod to Newport. It started with 1/2 mile of visibility and 22kts of backwind wind.
My only soft/hardwere problem was the incompatibility of Iridium with Mac. Iridium announced some development but nothing is operational to date. My son custumised for me a Email. As a consequence I didn't succeed (but I didn't try hard as the Email connection was more important to recieve grib files) in connecting the Nasa AIS engine.
I'm going back to Europe, still single handed, in late November, after the hurican season.
Amicalement
Eric

Mr. Tides 2.5.6 released

Mr. Tides 2.5.6 for OS 9 and OS X has been released.
Changes for 2.5.6: - Fixed the nagging display bug with substations that would sometimes result in odd humps in the display.
Fixed a bug with the clock view and minus tides that wouldn't display the full range of the minus tide.
Fixed a bug where the menu wouldn't allow you to open the substation's reference station.
Limited the tide values display for the day to be only for that day.

Applescript

Hello,
I'm beginning to play with applescript and GPSNavX to see how easy we can make addon apps.
I already have two requests for the next version :
- get accessable unformatted data (lat, lon cog, time, ...) with applescript
- Is it possible to have the ability to hide the GPS window but without closing the connection to the gps.
I've upload a very small app I've made in 2 hours, and its very fun to imagine what I can do with applescript. Or even widgets ...
http://www.silex.net/clients/GPSRaceX.zip
CAUTION : this app is a quik and dirty try and a prof of concept only, do not use it in real nav. And only test on a macbookpro 10.4.7

Zooming in MacENC?

Is it reasonably possible to increase the 'zoom out' on MacENC? From a passage planning, or just plain dreaming, it would be nice to see a larger part of the map. At the very least it would be helpful to West Coast to Hawaii without panning, though West Coast to Marquises would be nice.

Mac Powerbook 4 Sale $150.00 OBO

I'm posting this only because I want to find a good home for this system. Ok it's not GPSNavX or uses OS 10 however I used it for almost 5 years and it worked great. So here goes...
Powerbook 1400c w/Sonnot G3 333mhz upgrade card. 6 gig HD, 64 megs ram/max'd Expansion Bay with CD-Rom and Floppy drive. Sorry weak battery, 3Comm 56K PC Card. Mac OS 8.6 which is best for this unit.
Internet capable. Microsoft Office 98, Norton's Utilities,Anti-virus, Tech Tools 1.1.9 Powerbook will come with a Citizen Notebook Printer ll printer, spare thermal cartridge, with all cables. Everything works great.
Now the best part.
Complete Computer Navigational system running NavimaQ 3.03 and NDI P1,P2,P3,Maptech Puget Sound electronic charts. Mr. Tides 2.0.9 classic world tide program. Hook this baby up to your GPS and you have a complete navigational system for your boat. This system worked the last time I used it on my boat, but I have upgraded my powerbook and don't need it anymore. PRICE IS BEST OFFER. Ebay has stock 1400c's going for $55.00 to $85.00 US w/o G3 upgrade or software.
Classic NavimaQ was not bad as a system, but I'm not impressed with their OS 10 software as it does not come close to what GPSNavX does.
If no one wants this system then I'll just remove all software and sell it super cheap. I would prefer not to but when GPSNavX came along it was a no brainer to upgrade everything.
Thanks and take care all.

I sure would like to hear any and all success stories of using CrossOver Mac on Intel based Macs with any of the windows only navigation related software. We may not have to wait for Garmin after all.....(grin).....

GPS/Mac NMEA/USB connectivity

I don't like the BU-353 or TN-200 USB-type GPS receivers and find them unreliable. We have a Furuno GP-31 Navigator GPS, and two Garmin GPS units. We can wire the NMEA output from any of them to a USB cable, I should think... To my iBook G4 which runs MacEnc. Right? Has anyone tried this? Thanks, Kathy Hill on the sail-assisted trawler Dorothy June. :?
