hello

is there no chart that we can use on our GPSNavX or other mac soft and also on our chartplotter (gps)

i mean , do i have to buy a BSB chart for my ibook and lets say a navionics or bluechart or C-map for my plotter.

i don't understand the difference

If you haven't seen it, Practical Sailor has a review of Nav software in their latest issue, including the likes of MaxSea and Nobeltec. They only tested GPSNavX and not MacENC, but in summary:

"Bottom Line: Don’t let the price fool you. GPSNavX was among the best we tested. Although, we did not test MacENC, based on our experience with GPSNavX and talks with users, we recommend it with a high degree of confidence."

And they didn't even mention the great support.

I would like to know what data GPSNavX does show when receiving AIS data?
From this image I see that all relevant data is there:

But other applications on other system do also show the size and the status (high speed boat etc) of the vessel as seen on this image.

So will GPSNavX (MacENC) show this data too?

And my last question: AIS will soon support weather data and other important data like floating objects and in the future replace NavTex.

Will our beloved application support this as well?

Hello all,

Just wanted to share a success story in case you have a similar configuration and want to know if it works.

I have a Furuno GP32 GPS and a ComNav 1001 autopilot. GPSNAVX is running on my PowerBook under Tiger. I purchased a MiniPlex Lite multiplexer from ShipModul and hooked it all up...

...and it works like a charm! Amazing stuff.

So if I have a Radar that I want to see waypoints and gps on and a VHF and SSB that I also want gps info on and wind/depth/speedo that I'd like to see dislayed on my PC and the PC that I want to have GPS and all the other stuff and a small Chartplotter that I might like to throw in - is a multiplexer what I'm looking for. I think it is, but it's a little confusing which one. Anybody have any tips? I've looked at the ShipModual but not sure I understand how many intsruments they accept. Would the Shipmodual Multiplex Lite be sufficient?

Any insight appreciated.

Feeding off some comments in other strings, I understand Globalmarine's XWeb works on a Mac, I assume via satphone of some sort, but what about their xGate/xNet allowing access via HF (SSB)? Does anyone know if it is potentially an alternative to Sailmail that would work on a Mac without having to use VirtualPC?

I finally have my SSB working on Jaga and am now looking at HF email options. I'd sure like to avoid using VirtualPC, and while I have two ibooks, the price of upgrading to one of the newer Intel Macs is the same as a new sail or new winches or new...

GPSNavX - searching the archives I saw where you were looking at writing a Mac sailmail client - what became of that?
