On Macs updated to OS X 10.6, if XCode 3.0 was previously installed you will need to also update XCode. XCode installer (XCode.mpkg) can be found on the OS X 10.6 install CD in the "Optional Installs" folder. Once updated this should cure the problem of some apps crashing at start up.

1) Check "Show Selected" on the "Routes" menu.

2) Open the "Route" window via the "Routes" menu.

3) Select "New" button to create a Route.

4) Minimize the "Routes" window using the yellow (-) button in the upper left hand corner of the "Routes" window. Minimizing prevents the Routes window from popping up over the Chart.

5) Select "Measure" mode on the toolbar.

6) Waypoints can be added to the new route by [command] double-clicking on the chart. [command] double-clicking on an existing waypoint name on the chart will add the waypoint to the selected route.

7) Minimize the "Waypoints" window.

8) Repeat step 6 for each waypoint in the route.


Notes:

A waypoint can be inserted in the selected route by selecting a waypoint in the Route that you want the new waypoint to inserted after.

Waypoints can also be added to the Route by [control] clicking on a waypoint name on the chart and selecting "Add To Route" on the context menu.

Waypoints can also be added to the Route by selecting "Add Waypoint" button on the "Routes" window and then selecting a waypoint from the menu.

Waypoints can be dragged from the Waypoints window to a route in the Routes window.

Waypoints can be dragged within the Routes window to change their order or from the Waypoints window into a Route.

Waypoints can be moved on the Chart by selecting the Waypoint move mode on the toolbar. Move the mouse cursor over the waypoint name on the chart. The cursor will turn to a cross. Drag waypoint to desired location.

This is a feature request really. I'd like to see some basic plotting functions incorporated into MacENC. The bearing and distance tool is already there but I'd like to see that expanded so that you could draw a, temporary, route in with multiple legs but without using waypoints.

Perhaps as an example I can explain how I use this feature for weather routing in another application.

1. I Display a grib file for current location and route
2. I step through the grib in six hourly increments for the first 24 hours drawing in my expected course and distance for that time period (the other app has a course and distance measuring tool similar to the MacENC one but once the mouse is released the line stays on display until the tool is turned off).
3. I draw in predicted course and distance for the next couple of days at 12 or 24 hourly intervals.
4. Look at a few different options to see which one gives the best result.

I don't want to use or create waypoints as I am usually sailing or motor sailing based on wind/sea state therefore this is just a best guess as to what I'll achieve over the next hours and days. It's quick and dirty weather routing but it works.

If there is a wish list for functions we Atlantic sailors would love to see the ability to download rtofs grib files directly out of MacENC. The files display nicely when loaded showing current dir/speed and depth contours when contours is checked.

For gulfstream crossing weather planning it would be nice to be able to download larger grib files as well when hooked up to highspeed internet before departure. Polar Navy's Polarview grib request mechanism has a nice ability to download 3 or 6 hour increments out to 14 days.

I've installed MaxSea 10.xx, running Windows XP SP3 in Parallels, and it seems to be working somewhat okay with 2009 maps and everything. But the problem is, that I am not getting any pos. from my GPS. I have one of those small Globalsat BU-353 gps', which was working perfectly before in Nobeltec, and almost seems to be working perfectly now. In the program "GPS info" it is still working perfectly, and MaxSea recognizes the device as well. You can even see the data in the data-window of MaxSea, but I am still not getting any position.

I'm pretty convinced that it is a matter of changing the options in MaxSea, but I have no idea which. So if someone knows what my problem is, please share.

Looking into a platform for Mac ENC, WX and XGate.

Hi, somebody now if its possible to connect a Radar direct to a Mac? Or to translate the Ehternetprotocol from the Radar to a Monitordisplay.
I'am searching a solution for the new Broadband Radar technology.

Sometime whe have to achieve the impossible, so we get the best.

1) Select Measure mode in the MacENC or GPSNavX toolbar. It's the button with the diagonal line with red and green dots at ends.

2) Drag on the chart to get distance and bearing. "Units" in the Preferences determine distance units and "True Bearings" on the "View" menu determine true or magnetic bearings.

Notes:

All bearings and distances are computed using Great Circle computation.

If a GPS is connected, then the origin of the bearing and distance will be the GPS position. To measure from a different origin hold down the [command] key before dragging.

To get the reciprocal bearing, hold down the [shift] key.
