Just a note to say these guys are great... out on my boat, uploaded the latest version, and my password didn't work...

Sent an email from my wife's Iphone, within 2 hours on Saturday, had a new password and continued with my trip...

The critical aspect to nav was the fact that we had a -3.4 tides that day....

As far as I know, this is all the hardware and software I'll need (in addition to downloaded charts) to find my position, speed, etc. Correct?

Some things I'm wondering:
1) does the mac battery suffer much from GPS receiver draw?
2) I'll surely be letting my mac 'sleep'. Does GPSnavX and the receiver allow this? Does the mac wake up quickly to provide a fresh fix?

Most AIS transponders have the ability to send their position, course, and speed (and other AIS data) to the interfaced Mac.

MacENC now has the ability to use the AIS transponder NMEA data to navigate with. What this means, is use don't need a GPS receiver interfaced to MacENC if you have an AIS transponder.

Just select the port of the AIS transponder (i.e. KeySerial1) in the AIS/RADAR Settings panel, rate 38400 and MacENC will use the AIS transponder to navigate with. In the event a GPS is interfaced to MacENC, then it will take precedence over the AIS transponder for real-time plotting.

Note: As of 07/06/2008 AIS B transponders are not legal to use in US waters.

Good news for those who sail in New Zealand waters. The entire collection of NZMariner charts (161 charts), which was previously available on CD very cheaply, is now available free of charge. The chart CD contents and also the monthly update CD contents can be downloaded here: http://www.hydro.linz.govt.nz/charts/ras.../index.asp
The forthcoming version of PassagePlus will allow you to install charts directly from the downloaded folder. The current version (v1.5.0) assumes that CDs will be used. So to take advantage of this price in the meantime you need to burn the downloaded files to CD. Just unzip the download and then drag all the CONTENTS of the folder (NOT the folder itself) to a blank CD and burn it.

I have MacENC connected via a MiniPlex-42BT towards a GARMIN 128 GPS. Every time I try to transfer waypoints, only a couple (10 or so) of the waypoints gets transferred to the GPS.

With the MiniPlex tool I tried several settings, but I can't figure out how I can improve this. Does anybody know what I can doe?

Just bought two maps from ChartWorld. Following the ChartWorld.pdf: [http://www.gpsnavx.com/pdf/ChartWorld.pdf ], I'm kind of lost looking for the file: PERMIT.TXT.
The expanded ZIP folders do not seem to contain such a file.
Does anybody have suggestions?

Probably an answer in the forum somewhere but I haven't found it yet. I'm new to the forum/macs/gpsnavx (test version)and have a full set of the raster charts. I'm interested in trying out some vector charts for Florida. I'm not making much progress in finding some to compare to the raster ones. What am I missing/doing wrong?

I looked at chartworld.com, but I didn´t find a chart.

Do you know a site where I can buy and download a compatible chart with the region of the pacific, with Fiji and Suva?

I've been working on adding current vectors to the Maps in Mr. Tides. Here's what I've got so far. It takes a while (1 - 2 seconds) on my intel iMac (2 GHz) to come up with all the vectors, and I'm looking at what needs to be accelerated. I also want to animate this so that you can see the changes as time goes by, but that's for later on.

I've also added tide trends. The red dots are falling tides, the blue dots are rising tides. I'm still working on this part, it's very much a work in progress at this time.
