If no improvements were made I'd still be very happy to have this app. Thanks. After using a few weeks I'd like to suggest:

Measure distance between 2 points while connected - not just distance from boat. (To do this I had to disconnect the GPS and close laptop then open back up disconnected.)

When measuring and it's less than 1NM, it shows in yards. I can't relate to yards. Consider decimal miles (e.g. 0.1NM, 0.5NM).

Better use of remembering state. On a laptop the screen real estate is precious. I don't want navigation or waypoint windows popping up unexpectedly.

Better use of modifier keys so I don't have to explicitly change modes. I prefer to avoid all the mouse clicking - especially on a trackpad.

Document file which holds all routes, etc. Now, to move those from desktop to laptop requires an import/export. I'd like to use documents similar to chart manager.

For route info. Add fuel consumption calculator. I used this in Nobeltec and like it when having to motor. Also, allow entry of minimum and average speed so I can predetermine fuel and/or time requirements without using my own calculator. Ok, put this at the bottom of the list.

I have got our NASA AIS working okay but a lot of the ships are showing as '???'.

I'm new to this forum, but it looks the goods!
I've searched unsuccessfully for a solution to GPS on my Macbook.
I used to use a Garmin handheld on a windoze lappy and cap'n software with great results.
However now I'm using a macbook and vmware / XP Home for the same cap'n software but cannot get the usb to work.

BTW I live on a 10 metre simpson cat in FNQ (Far Northern Queensland) Australia. (home of the inflatable eating saltwater crocodiles), which is why I'm back using a 'Tinny'

And life is still pretty good!

We'll be spending a week sailing on the southern Turkish coast this fall and I'd like to get charts to work with either GPSNavX and/or MacENC. It looks to me as if the Maptech ones will work with NavX. Can anyone else offer other suggestions?

The UK Maptech version says "This CD contains German Hydrographic Office charts of the title area in Maptech/BSB 4.0 format." Anyone know if the charts are *written* in German?

We are closing on the goal of moving from an old b&w Garmin chartplotter to a MacBook system with MacENC. I expect to make the move this fall when Leopard is released. Has anyone had any experiences with a bluetooth GPS antenna, preferably a unit that can be rail-mounted? We are in a power boat (sorry all you sailors) and I would like to be able to move frrom lower to upper helms without disconnecting and reconnecting. Plus, I just like the idea of less wires to route.

Will GPS Nav X and Mac ENC ever be integrated into one application?

I find it slightly irritating that there are currently two applications being developed concurrently.

Just my opinion of course...

I just purchased VMWare Fusion... IMHO the best option for Windows on a Mac so far. Anyone else tried it?

I've been cruising for the past 6 weeks in BC: the Queen Charlottes and am now on the west coast of Vancouver Island, and found a hot spot...

Been giving MacENC a good run and am very pleased. Two problems, though, as I'm using the Canadian offical raster charts:

1 - How do I find the 'unit's' for a specific chart, especially whether depths are meters or fathoms? Canadian charts vary (not all yet converted to metric) and it's not necessarily obvious. I know how to find this in GPSNavX, but haven't found it in MacENC.

2 - Frequently when zooming, and sometimes while doing other operations, the 'view Raster Chart' option will become deselected, though I waasn't near the menu or the [cmd-R] keys.

3 - several times, particularly if my laptop (a MacBook) has sat for a while untouched, MacENC will freeze. One one occasion I had to reboot the computer to get it free.

Any thoughts or suggestions?
