I am a new to MacENC.
"MacENC quick start guide" was seen, and "- All Available ENCs" was downloaded from the site of NOAA. It is displayed when Catalog.031 is opened with Chart Manager after unzip is done, "No new cells found in selected catalog", and is not displayed the chart. Might you need it something?

I like the ability to enlarge the GPS panel. My MacBook is about 4 feet from where I steer the boat, and I can read it without moving closer. When navigating to a waypoint, it would be great if that information could be enlarged too.

Sorry if this has been asked many times before, but I am thinking of moving over to Mac ENC from GPS Nav X.

I am currently using an iBook G4.

Should I 'go for it'?

The Lagoon factory is going to install basic Raymarine instruments (depth, speed, wind indicator, compass) and a Raymarine autopilot.

I want to use MacENC, via a mac mini and a Macbook, for navigation. It seems to me that I can use non-Raymarine GPS, radar, and AIS instruments and just have those all communicate with the macs, with no need for a SeaTlak/NMEA interface. Am I overlooking something? If I go with non-Raymarine equipment, what do those of you with experience with MacENC recommend? I want to purchase the hardware here in the U.S. and ship it over to France where I would have the commissioning company install it.

How do I connect a bluetooth GPS to GPSNavX it is a Holux `gpslim240 Bluetooth GPS Receiver I bought from Navicore.

Here is what I have: Bluetooth is working. I'm receiving GPS data on the computer with a Green/Yellow flashing button and I see data in the monitor. GPS is connected to "Listener Port #1"
Instruments are connected to "Listener Port #3.
I left "Listener Port #2 empty as a second GPS will be installed and this port will be saved for it.
Autopilot connected to "Output 2" is receiving data and follows a waypoint when activated.

Problems:
1. AIS is receiving data in the Monitor but the button stays yellow all the time, (and all data in monitor window is yellow). I do not see any commercial shipping on the chart. There is almost always commercial shipping as our boat is close to NY Harbor. When the AIS was connected via a Keyspan Serial/USB converter all worked great in MacENC. I moved it over to the RS-232 connection on the 42-BT for total wireless capability.
In the Miniplex Config Tool I have settings as per the Miniplex manual with AIS selected and 38400. The Instrument and AIS draws have "Use GPS Port" selected.

2. I have a VHF and SSB radio connected to receive GPS data from "Output 1" on the 42-BT. Both radio's will show the lat/long on their display's and use it for DSC. This feature worked with the old -pre Miniplex wiring and same GPS but does not receive data from "output #1" on the 42-BT now. I believe there is no data coming out of the "Output #1" terminals.

After carefully checking all my work I'm either repeatedly overlooking the same simple configuration error or there is an equipment / wiring problem I'm not catching here. From what I described is there anything obvious that I missed?

Last week of May we went on a sailing trip with 6 boats on the Ijsselmeer (in the Netherlands).
2 boats used iBook G4 to navigate with MacENC and the latest ENC Charts. Unfortunately the buoys in the Netherlands are so often changed (renamed, moved, removed, new ones etc.) that the ENC charts weren't up to date on 2 places. But there was no problem or danger. In fact the papercharts (dated 2007) were wrong on 1 spot too!
A friend had his AIS SR161 receiver connected via Keyspan High Speed USB to Serial Converter to his G4 iBook.

Only once we saw the Red Dot in MacENC AIS Connection Window jumping to green, but there wasn't enough data to see any boat inside MacENC.
On the AIS SR161 Receiver the data red LED is flashing very fast, but the green LED was just green the same moment as data was sent to MacENC.

Now my Qs:

Is the permament flashing of the red LED correct?

Do AIS receivers only get data when there really is AIS signals or does it receive data from the AIS stations too even if there is no boat, just to tell the AIS receiver that the stations are online?

I checked via Wifi, GoogleEarth and Vesseltracker where ships with AIS are on the way, though in the Ijsselmeer there weren't but the Northsea which was about 15 miles away had several cargo ships with AIS signals!
Do the stations which transmit the AIS signal transmit it only seawards or landwards too?

When I lay out a new route, I do so zoomed way out so I can get the big picture. After completing this I go back to the first waypoint in the route and move the location to fine tune the route around obstructions and low water, etc. In the Help menu it says:

"When "Mode" is "<+>" waypoints can be moved on the chart. Move the cursor over the waypoint name. The cursor will change to a move cursor. Drag the waypoint to the location desired on the chart."

What is "Mode" and where do I turn this on?

Sometimes I like to move a waypoint I'm navigating to because what looked like a safe clearance on the computer screen turned out to be too close in real life. Can this be done in MacEnc?

Also, when creating a new route should there be a line connecting each waypoint as it is put on the chart? This would make it easier to see a straight line course and if this line is running over obstructions between waypoints. So far, I have been able to double click and lay out a series of waypoints in a route but don't see the connecting line from point of origin to destination.
